Yeah, if you have a good team, cap space is supposed to be a concern.

It doesn't change the fact that to expect Lindgren to replace Price and be good at it as a starter when his numbers are terrible in Laval does not make any sense.

So let's say you trade Price to the Blues, expect Allen + coming back.

on that part i agree. any trade involving Price would like involve a goalie coming back if only for salary balance. but Price isn't being dealt because Marc Bergevin still thinks he can fluke this team into a Cup. because Marc Bergevin absolutely sucks.

yes but the reason the cap wasn't the problem is because this team doesn't have a lot of good hockey players. eventually, if you hope to be good, you'll have good players and then that $10.5 million anchor in net becomes a problem. fortunately as long as Marc Bergevin is the GM here that's not likely to be an issue

Yeah this contract will certainly come back to bite them in the butt I think. Its a hard call you have one of the best goalies in the league and you certainly dont want to lose for nothing. Management obviously didnt think the team would bottom out this year. This is easy to say now of course but trading price last year would have given you a kings ransom. Id say two 1st round picks, one A tier prospect, one B tier prospect a decent roster player and a band aid goalie. Now the return would be more like one 1st round pick a B tier prospect and maybe a later round pick. But would involve taking on a bad contract or two at least in the short term to make it happen.

That 10.5 is a crazy albatross contract right now which most teams will stay away from. The ideal number would have been 7.5-8 over 6. Maybe no way that could have happened but that would have been fair for all parties and made him an asset instead of a burden.
