The point stands. It's possible to be a good player on a bad team. Is it Doan's fault the coyotes mostly sucked with him? The Panthers wasted Olli Jokinen's prime, kovalchuk couldn't make the thrashers good
- jcragcrumple

Doan was never an elite player. He was very good, not even great I'd argue.

Also, it's Arizona/Phoenix.

you are on point today

I was just coming in here to say he basically carried the team on his back to the playoffs last year and even almost made the conference finals, within a game of them, to be exact.

- BeadyEyedDouche

So McDavid will get a pass this year if the Oil miss, but ROR doesn't?

You really are just all doom and gloom all the time, aren't you. Yikes.

Read the GR article. If Buffalo offers him a deal, he's more than likely signing it. He's ready to join this organization.

I have “hope” usually players that do good overseas excel at the next level

But a great player will eventually make a great team around him. Crosby spent most of his career playing with the second and third line guys and making them great.

The team around Crosby was light years better.

Hoffman would be an excellent get. The guy is one of the best 5v5 scorers in the league. And he's cheap for what he can do.

Plus 365Canadian would blow his own pants off.

- TheSabresTaco

Completely disagree
He’s 28 now, and will turn 31 in the beginning of the season when his new contract starts

Are we gonna wanna be in a position where we have to give a 31 year old a new contract?
And a big $$$ long term deal at that?

No way
Doesn’t make sense to trade good assets for 2 years of his play where we won’t actually be “contenders”

Me too. Zadina is a skating dream and a scoring stud for Halifax and he plays both ends of the rink. We need some of this for the future of the Sabres. Many of said they are not worried about Eichel's lack of defensive skill and limited effort on the backcheck but trust me from experience, that shet is contagious. Name a captain of any successful NHL team currently that does not play a good 2 way game?
- lulags

Yeah the goal scoring prowess is what is so attractive about Zadina to me as well. Think we need a good sniper.

I think Jack's 200ft game has grown leaps and bounds since last year, so don't want to answer the question. However, you're right, most teams do have well round players wearing the C. I think Jack will get there, he's broken up a lot of odd man rushes this year with his backcheck. IMO if he can stop losing guys in the D-zone so often, he'll be just fine.

you telling me ROR is being forced to play and not loving every second of it because he doesn't think he's the best player on the ice?
- BeadyEyedDouche

When did he pour his feelings out to you?

You’re making A LOT of assumptions

And I won't hurt to have another elite player who does play a 200ft game rather than a bunch of loafers for him to folllow

They have the 6th most goals against and a defense as bad as ours.

I seriously can't believe you're comparing McJesus to ROR right now.

That team is just as bad as ours but he still basically willed them into and through the playoffs last year. ROR has done that exactly never in his almost 10 year career.

Only 2 weeks to the TDL. Who gets moved that is a surprise? No Kane, No Lehner, No Pouliot.

I say, unfortunately, Samson is sent packing. I think he still has a lot of value that Botts won't be able to pass up. Anyone else have a guess?

- RhinoFan

I could see Sam getting traded for another rfa.

He's been playing well, but has to take some of the blame for us losing since he's been a regular. Lots of blame to go around.

Lacks speed, size and desire.

Has alot of upside, teams would probably be interested

it wouldn't be McDavid or RORs fault either team didnt make the playoffs, there is no category to compare these two players anyway.

Both teams suck, ROR is a good player, I just don't think he fits here.

It's just a response to one of the other constant comments about ROR

"He was paid to make this team better. We're 30th"

McDavids team sucks too. One player can't make a team

good read, if someone else posted this already my apologies.
I still am not sold on B. Tkachuk as the answer. I like Zardina better and Boqvist if we fall further than 2nd overall

- lulags

I’ve been saying this too

I like Svechnikov as well
Him & Zadina are both probably ready for top6 duty right away
Both should be the type of “sniper” we’ve been wanting to play with Jack

Boqvist has high level offensive skills
But at 170lbs, it’s gonna take him a couple years to get stronger & be able to play in the NHL
I think I’d take him 4th though

It took a new coach and gm for the bills to ship out guys with effort/attitude problems and look what it did, year one. A couple of the "most talented" guys on the roster get moved and they make the playoffs. Vegas gets a crew of castoffs that actually give a (frank) and look where they are. Sam and ror are two of the guys that have shown inconsistent effort on this team.
- TheHank

Well spoken.

Lack of leadership and even emotion with Ror and Sam.

Bills trade Sammy and darius (2) top 4 picks and got better

Someone here actually brought up this scenario recently. What if it is our "golden boy" who is the real problem? If so we are (frank)ed.
- TheHank

Eichel clearly is a d-bag and so is ror.

Can't trade eichel, he's just too good at hockey.

Need to get younger guys who will look at jack as a veteran guy, instead of guys that are older than him.
They look at jack as a know it all kid.

A DT on a 53 man rosters and a 2C are not comparable imo.

Sam R and Sammy I get. Both never lived up to the hype for various reasons

Right...

O’Reilly ISN’T McDavid

Doesn’t mean he’s not good

If you’re gonna argue that he’s the 2nd best player we have, “but we’re still 30th”
Then u also have to say that about our BEST player as well

Can’t pick & choose that argument only for the guy(s) you don’t like

Svechnikov too
And i think having him + Zadina, MIGHT, open the door for us to bring in talent from the KHL
Not Kovalchuk,
but there’s some other good players over there
