We were talking about O’Reilly.

He’s still on the Sabres, right?

No where did I mention anyone that was moved

- sbroads24

It's still early.

And you always bring up O'Reilly, which was a move Murray made.

We get it. Stop with the I-told-you-so act.

Ah, so because Murray got O’Reilly, we can’t talk about him.

HockeyBuzz rules are weird.

Okposo 4 pts behind Kane. Could catch him before a trade.

If so, top 3 forwards in order, in terms of production

Eichel
O'Reilly
Okposo

O’Reilly is 79th in scoring. Which on average would be the 3rd highest scorer on a team
Okposo is 119th

This is a poor argument

I'd trade ROR for a top D-man.

Hes not a bad player, i just think that cost would be best used elsewhere.

Only issue is, you have no experienced Centers after Eichel, unless you plan on throwing Asplund and Middlestat into the fire next year and 2 and 3 line centers.

- ImThatGuy

That small issue of not having a good #2 center. We had that problem for years, until we signed ror.

He's not making more than the others yet.
Are you counting the $10m now or am I misreading this?

It's to say that the players the Sabres pay the most, produce the most, which on a base level is good. If Pouliot were number 2, there'd be a bigger problem. More good players would help those guys do even better.

The most maligned players on this board produce the most

Should have said next year. They'll probably start the year with their highest paid forwards producing the most, in order of pay

Bobby Ryan has 7.25M cap for 4 more years after this season.

Zach Parise has over 7.5M cap for 7 more years after this season.

Dion Phaneuf has 7M cap for 3 more years after this season.

- TheSabresTaco

You have Middlestat coming up. He should slot in at #2 C behind Eichel.

But they don’t produce enough (especially 5 on 5)

Most playoff teams have 2 guys in the top 30-40.

Some have 3-4 in the top 50-60

And that has nothing to do with their bottom 6.

Our problem is both. We have 1 guy in the top 20, and the next is 79th in scoring. That’s bad

Getting a number 2 Center that doesn’t shut down opponents and doesn’t score at evens is like finding a unicorn

That tells me that having more good players makes your good players better. The good play from 1 feeds into the the others.

We don't have that critical mass of good players to start the chain reaction of scoring. They need 2 more top wingers

O'Reilly is fine.

Aside from the power play, he doesn't get to boost his points by playing with jack.
He's overplayed and a bit overpaid.
He's 37th in scoring by centers and 73rd over all in scoring. He has a costant rotation of barely nhl wingers.

When you go to the games, he's slow but effective when watching. His stick work and battle stand out.

I understand the 5 x5 but he's not the main problem.

How about:
Lehner
Kane
Moulson (contract)
Boro
Bowl u

They are the problems . Ror is a 6.25 million $ center being paid 7.5

from what I heard

there is no chance of them getting JT

more likely outcome is okposo going back to the island this summer (JT likes him)

- homiedclown

When i posted okposo to islanders, there were a lot of "no ways"

of course it was prior to his hot streak, now his value is up

This is a great point:
They are getting paid to lead and are leading in scoring.

Bottom 6 problem

I think O’Reilly is a 5 mil player but that’s just me.

Problem, no. But playing him that much is a problem.

He’s going to be a very old and worn out 28-29 year old in the coming years at this pace. He already has back issues

Big assumption considering he has played exactly 0 games in a professional league.

I agree, but as much as I love mitts:

He may not be ready- which I think he is
He may play on jacks wing- probably at times

Ror has some veteran savy and experience that would be missing initially

Gorges 4 plus
Bogo 5 plus
Moulson 5 plus

I think he's a step or 2 better than this group

Looking at the stats page, if you draw a line after scandella, it's a pretty clean break in terms of production/non production. Everything from Pouliot south is poor. The only exception would be to swap Pominville for Erod, because Erod has played half as many games.
