I think he clears and is traded afterwards. A team will dump a contract and can keep smith in the AHL since he cleared, then post deadline can call him up as the roster expands.

The Stars will be all over this kind of move, its their sort of thing

Vinni Lettieri just collided with Henrik Lundqvist and the goalie was down for a moment. He seems fine and is back up, but he was visibly angry. Knowing how competitive and focused Lundqvist is, this difficult stretch has to be eating him up inside.
