Yes, he was an idiot, but still pales in comparison to the likes of Pronger, Cooke, Downie, Samuelsson, Hunter, hell even Gordie.

I wonder how old do you have to be too be a mentor and how many nhl seasons do you need? Also, how many mentors?
We have Sutter Erickson Edler Tanev Vanek Gagner MDZ Biega Sedin and Sedin. That is 10 of 23 man roster filling out mentorship roles. At this rate we should be cup champs next season.lol
Time to find aome younger faster free agents and havè a top line of Bo Brock and whoever and some hardworking faster 3rd and 4th liners. It beats what they jave been doing for the last 5 seasons or so. - Reubenkincade

He’s traded Kesler/McCann/plenty of picks so far, to not end up with one reliable decent dman yet is disappointing - Nucker101
The kesler trade was a hard one, we all watched the video of them discussing it. Bonino and the first were the main parts of the deal as he wanted to replace the loss at center. We should have started the rebuild then, but JB only got the job because he said a rebuild could be avoided. Any potential GM saying rebuild at the time was not getting hired. Many people also thought Hammer, Bieksa, Edler, Tanev was a solid top 4 at the time. Because of this Forwards were targeted. We would also be in a better situation right now if we still had Tree. Agree...actually Kesler should have been gone right after the 2012 pounding by LA as there were talks of him asking for a trade out then.
On Tree that's a hard sell.. We don't know yet if he would have continued his crybaby status under Green....maybe...maybe not. Tough one. Hopefully he comes back and proves us all wrong. |

He acquired Sbisa + 1st along with Bonino. People always assume Murray held a gun to his head, and he did to an extent, but Benning still made mistakes in that trade.
The most glaring one is not getting Perrault thrown in, a solid cost-efficient middle 6 player that can play all 3 forward positions. He wasn't given a qualifying offer from the Ducks so he had zero value to Anaheim. They didn't want to keep him for some reason.
Canucks would probably be better off today with Perrault + 1 of Theodore/Vatanen than what they ended up with from that deal.
I doubt Anaheim would have said no to basically trading one of Vatanen or Theodore for Kesler straight up. Hell, they'd be more likely to throw in another asset instead of saying no. |

Either:
1) It’s bullpoop spoon fed to fans. “Mentorship” is just code for we want to make the playoffs or stay in the hunt for as long as possible to keep casual fans interested. An unrealistic plan, and one that they’ve failed at for 3 consecutive years now. Bad plan, worse execution.
2) it’s just stupidity and they really do think that every young guy on this roster needs 3 mentors.
It’s hilarious that the short term vets are seemingly better mentors than the guys who have been signed for years. Boeser seems to give Vanek a lot of credit for helping him out since the summer.
MDZ has struggled on the ice but he stands up for teammates, plays physical, is one of the most vocal guys on the ice/bench(at least in the games I’ve attended so far).
Eriksson is no leader. He might be a nice hard working guy, but he’s no leader. Same with Gagner. I doubt these guys are completely different behind the scenes than what they show on the ice and on the bench.
EG can’t stay healthy and has talked up a bigger game than he actually plays. I was really hoping he would be as physical as MDZ is and be the emotional leader for this club, but he’s been a disappointment so far.
Sutter seems like he has some leadership qualities but the guy needs to stay healthy. - Nucker101

Barnaby. - LordHumungous
Oh yes Barnaby. There's hundreds of players that make Burrow's actions seem silly and childish. Something to laugh at, rather than being disgusted or appalled.
I mean, I've seen it when perfectly sane people turn into animals when they fight. They lose their poop and attack with pure emotion. In AB's case, I'm not sure that stuff is premeditated like some of the really dirty stuff that's gone on.
Some of us have witnessed hockey when it was an entire league of dirty players, not just a player or two.

I'm guessing he asked for Vatanen instead of Sbisa to go along with Bonino and a pick and they said no.
Highly doubt Murray valued Vatanen more than Bonino + 1st
Bonino had great value to a team like the Ducks because he was so cheap and produced like a 2LC. And the Ducks are actually good at drafting so that 1st has plenty of value to them as well. |

If JB is done after the season, I really hope (but dont expect) that the press conference with Linden and Aquilini addresses this. I'd like to see them admit whether this was the mandated job criteria from the very beginning or if JB was the candidate that won them over by promising them a team that could compete and rebuild at the same time. |

Things I would do :
TDL
Move Hutton Gudbrandson Vanek Tanev bring up Holm Weirchioch. We can't fall far from where we are now.
SUMMER
Tell Erikssons agent to find him a new team or he is in Utica. Canucks can eat p to 3 mil.
Say goodbye to the Twins .

I say reasons. Gillis left us in a bad situation, JB made a lot of early mistakes. But JB has us on the right track now. If we focus on D this draft and add picks we can easily be a top 5 prospect pool and lots of trade chips when we are ready. |

Drafting is only a fraction of the job. If that’s all he’s good at then he’s not cut out to be a GM.
