Yeah, he seems like a total tool. Still, I think he's one of the best sports writers in Pittsburgh and I'll reassess my commitment when my subscription comes up for renewal.

It's unfortunate to hear all of this stuff, but I've been involved in a few startups myself and I have to say, nothing surprises me from that story. Most small companies in the first couple of years are run totally by the seat of their pants. It's obvious DK is the wrong person to be interacting with his personnel and It sounds like he's changed the structure so he no longer has to handle management functions. He's going to need to fix his reputation to keep his company viable.

The only defection that truly hurt me was Yohe. He is top notch and I subscribed to the Athletic simply because of him. Mark Kaboly was replaced with a much better beat writer Dale Lolly for the Steelers.

The Katie Brown thing....I've got to be honest, I thought her work was totally canned. I rarely finished an article of hers. Sure she was mistreated to some degree, but I always thought she was a mistake hire. Frankly, I want to read grizzled writers who have real insight and sources within the team. Somebody that knows the history of the team. Katie Brown checked off zero boxes for the kind of writer I follow.

What DK's site does really well is interact with the subscribers. The athletic misses this point and I think will suffer for it. I think the Penguins content is lighter than I was expecting too.

The Katie Brown stuff didn't really bother me, but the things Sara Civian wrote did. Past the point where it's ok for a boss to be talking about a woman that way to other employees and work associates. Not a surprise DK is a jerk for a boss, but this seems beyond that.

I agree, expected more content from the Athletic. Seems like only one guy has to write most days. Bit it seems like part of why DK has so much content is he pushes them to work crazy hours and most of them are probably stuck because this isn't a good industry right now.

I signed up for a full year sub with DK Sports two days before Yohe left and I have only used the site once since. Before this, I was paying monthly and using it often haha.

That's the big infraction in my eyes. In this day and age you can't openly say things like that. Being 57 and talking openly about a 25 year old girl is extremely creepy. He must be a real idiot to not think it will come back to bite him. It's not the 50's or 60's. He's very close to flushing his career down the toilet.

Yohe and Marshall both do awesome work, but it's so few and far between. I am not really a fan of Seth Rorabaugh or however you spell his name. But I do like Dom's articles too.

I'm on the fence with the Athletic. Yohe isn't really doing anything I can't find for free. Marshall's articles are fantastic and I like getting some other teams regularly so I might.

Yeah Jesse's easily the best Pens writer I know of. It just sucks that so much time passes between his articles but his stuff is the good stuff and it makes sense that it takes time for his articles when you read them.

DJ always seemed like a D-bag. I use to listen to MM and he would have him on and he was so arrogant and acted like he had such an inside track to the Pens and above the rumor mill. In reality a lot of sports writers are lame. Shelly Anderson? is she still employed by the trib?

Agree with all of this. I think it was likely a bit overblown. There is a line that a boss should never cross, man or woman. But the Katie stuff, to me, sounded like the same kind of poop my boss says to me. Not to diminish any of her claims, but sometimes bosses will push you or make you feel worthless. It's part of life and you always have the freedom to work somewhere else.

Unfortunately, I already re-upped for 3 more years with DK. I don't check out much on their site anymore just because I have certain people I like to read. Dejan himself has some really good articles. I loved Benz on the radio. Yohe is like the Bob Mackenzie of Pens writing. Mackey is a good reporter and comes up with some interesting stories (even if he has a hot take now and then). Man, there was a time I really loved that site but the turnover is getting old.

I subscribed to the Athletic for Yohe and Marshall articles....but definitely agree.... there isnt the same level of content/interaction as with DK. The Athletic is just a watered down version of PPG or the Trib.

I generally would rather just chat about hockey on here with you guys.

I actually have "grown" to like Madden. (see what I did there?)

The ego thing gets old but he's more interesting/entertaining than most of the hum drum fluff out there.
