I would have no issue keeping Pouliot.
- SABRES 89

They have many bigger issues to be sure, so I would be ok for another year, but not for longer than that

Niether would I.

He would do the same thing Reinhart would do with Eichel. 20 goals 40-50 points.

If you can land a good D prospect for Sam, I say swing away

But $5 isn’t rare.

We can find $5 for a 2nd rounder.

Benoit Pouliot cost 1 mil in free agency and is as good as Sam Reinhart. He’s just older

- sbroads24

Right, but you didn't give anything up except cap space to get Pouliot.

Don't get caught up in the amount.

Why do you think the casino always wins despite the fact that you CAN win big?

It's why, even when the jackpot outweighs the odds of winning the lottery it's still not a smart move to buy a ticket, because the expected value is lower than the straight up odds unless and until the jackpot gets to a stupid high number(which we haven't seen yet).

So you're going to get a guy that, yes, may have a higher ceiling, but it's also going to be offset by how good Reinhart is, so you're not trading Reinhart for an unproven, but promising guy who was drafted in the top 5 or thereabouts. At least not without adding, but what your adding has it's own risks and upside. More often you're going to end up with a Kassian Hodgson trade. Kassian had shown a little more at that point, but Hodgson had the higher ceiling. As it turns out neither really panned out.

so he will be ready after the lockout

- homiedclown

Yeah, could be. but I don't see very much offense coming out of him, just a strong defensive forward.

Situationally, yes, it can work, but if you continue to do that as your strategy you'd get killed.

you realize he and asplund are playing with 30 plus year old pros overseas in a lower scoring league, right?

Ok, but this depends on scenario.

Carolina for example is looking for a top 6-9 forward

They have 7 D men who are either top 4, or top 4 potential.

I’d rather acquire Jake Bean or Haydn Fleury, and replace Reinhart with a cost effective player, than overlay for an established D man.

Like I said, it’s not always going to work. But we know now what Reinhart is. Swing away

Sam Reinhart = Joel Armia

Difference is Armia never got ice time with Eichel.

If you traded Armia at 22, for a D man with upside, perfect.

If you throw Sam into a trade with 4 other peices, eff you Jbotts, you suck

yes, I do, and that still doesn't change the fact they are both projected as bottom 6 forwards. Asplund has some offensive upside, but I don't think Davidsson is being projected to do much in the way of scoring. but, who knows, he's young and things change.

I’m ready for some of the young guys to take some roster spots here

I think Mittelstadt will probably be here
(I wouldn’t be shocked if Botts starts him in Rochester though)

Can Nylander finish strong & get a good look?
Are we drafting a forward who’s ready right away?

Rodrigues, Bailey, Baptiste, Smith & Fasching...
who does Botts see as staying with us,
and who does he move?
They’re all pretty much “ready” imo

That’s 8 potentiality new forwards

And then there’s Asplund & Olofsson who are coming over from Sweden...
do they have a shot at making the roster?

And Cliff Pu is turning pro too

Botts has some interesting decisions to make
I’m thinking (at least) a couple of these guys get traded

- jdfitz77

It's entirely possible that ERod, Fasching, Baptiste, Bailey, and Smith don't stick in the NHL. If you're betting, the over/under is probably 1 at this point. The next wave of prospects will be here next season and could overtake them very fast. The competition is great. The fact that these guys haven't played better in the NHL is not.

MAG 7 pts in 7gp ( playoffs ) “ next soup “ goes on to be a bust

Nelson 4 pts in 7GP ( next ghost)
Most likely will go on to be nothing special

I like Reinhart but I would trade him for an up and coming d-man - particularly from Carolina. Besides Guhle, we have no solid d-man prospects headed our way next year. We will need to trade for one.

You don’t think Poliout would score 20 with Eichel for a whole year like Sam did?

How did Sam do away from him so far this year?

Again... i think your hate has gone too far

In your example,
u gotta remember that it works both ways

Do i think Pouliot’s stats would go up with Eichel?
Yeah, of course

But i also think Eichel’s stats would probably go down

I guess that’s all tough to say
But there’s a reason Sam was drafted so high
And while he may not be producing like most #2 picks,
he also has better skills than an average NHLer like Pouliot
