Baptiste has played 2 games this trip:

1 with Nolan and and Larsson

And 1 with Pouliot and Erod. He took advantage of the latter, which was actually a good opportunity

- jcragcrumple

49th game of the season? It's a bad team. He had every chance to make the opening night roster. He hasn't been great in Rochester. The opportunity has been there, it's not just about 2 games. He's 22. My optimism is fading fast. There will be even more opportunities coming at the deadline. Time for him to prove he deserves to be in the NHL. Right now, I don't project him on the roster next year, let alone top 6/9.

Realistically there was 1 RW spot and Griffith won that spot. That was clearly a mistake. The highlights of last year when he played with Eichel tell the story. He has speed and hands. Time to give him real shot.

I don't think he really did. Botterill wanted all the young guys in Rochester. If it was truly open there's no way Tennyson and Griffith are up to start the season.

That's the rub, right? If you play him with talent on the wings then he's not 3C by default on this team.
- JetpackJesus

Well... we do have some talent coming

Let’s just say we keep Kane

(Mittelstadt?) - Eichel - Okposo
________ - O’Reilly - Pominville
Kane - Reinhart - (Nylander?)

For O’Reilly’s LW...
Girgensons, Bailey, Baptiste, Larsson, Rodrigues, Smith, etc etc etc

So yeah...
it’s more like 1a, 1b, 1c
Like the Pens do with Kessel on line3

Last three games have shown that the sabres are more talented then their record suggests. However they are not on the level of a playoff team. Reinhart producing while playing with ROR is nice to see. I still think he is moved in the offseason however I think it will depend on what we draft in the upcoming draft. At the very least you give him a bridge deal and perhaps he’s traded next season. ROR is a tad overpaid but a year or two from now 7M will be the going rate for a 2C. I think next season you throw Nylander into the deepend and see if he sinks or swims. Without knowing for certain what/where we draft this summer on paper our top 6 looks like this imo.

Exactly

If u wanna say that Griffith “beat out” Bailey & Baptiste
Then u also have to say Tennyson beat out Guhle
And there’s just no freaking way that’s true

Do you see Erod as 3C? Baptiste needs to be top 9 imo, preferably top 6. Okposo seems to have that Eichel RW locked down, so that leaves ROR as the lone top 6 option. I'm not opposed to that, because Erod and Baptiste can't lock down a traditional 3rd checking line
- jcragcrumple

e-rod as 3rd line center? maybe

IMO Baptiste needs a shot at top 6

Right. I'm just saying to start this season the team didn't have enough talented wings to play alongside the 3C. If you put any talent on Sam's wing, then ROR or Eichel aren't playing with talent on the wings. I hope that won't be the case for much longer.

Or u “pair” guys up & spread it out over 3 lines
Hope that Pominville, Girgs?, Bailey, Baptiste, Rodrigues, Smith, Fasching (am i forgetting someone?) can fill in the open slots and all 3 lines can be productive

It’s important to our overall success to have a 3rd line that scores regularly

True...
Botts wanted the kids in Rochester,
so that limited our options
It’s why Griffith spent so much time here
And why Pouliot & Girgs spent so much time in the top9

Next year,
we should hopefully have enough talent up here to spread it out some

The Kids are Alex and Guhle. Look back at pre-season. Griffith outplayed Bailey and Baptiste. Those 2 are 22 with 2 full AHL seasons. Surely you can see the difference. They haven't been overly impressive in Rochester either. I don't get the optimism on them and the pessimism on Alex. They were both in Juniors at the same point in their careers.

I wanna see Bailey back on RORs line too

Bailey—O’Reilly—Reinhart

Okposo—Eichel—Baptiste

Something like that?
