team-defense has worked really well in four of the last five games...
- Michael Pachla

Spot on.
The model the Sabres should strive to become is that of the 2005/2006 Sabres...an up-tempo, 5 man unit up and down the ice.
I believe that is what JBotts and
Housley wanted...but have realized they just dont have the personnel throughout the team to play a fast-paced game.
However, that doesnt mean that 5 man units can't work... if fact it is the best structure to employ.

IMO the core up front is way to slow to do this style

hopefully a faster d unit can make it happen though

Instead of 5 thoroughbreds, they have a mule, a jackass, 2 ponies and a mare. Or something. Eichel is good

Playing up-tempo with speed, yes...way to slow.
Playing as a 5 man unit, rather than 3:2, I disagree that it can't be done...but it takes commitment from all players.
I believe the commitment issue is what the club is experiencing ...judging by the comments from players and coaches all season.

"Pavel Buchnevich, New York Rangers

One year removed from a rookie season that saw the Russian forward relegated to the press box and minor league affiliate at various times, Bucknevich has cemented himself as a force to be reckoned with in New York. After a slow start to the season, the Blueshirts have bounced back, aided in no small part by Buchnevich’s assertive play. Through 26 games (New York is 14-10-2), the forward has logged 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) and has far outshined the Rangers’ assumed golden boy, Jimmy Vesey. "

I agree. But trade all the pieces that aren't in the future plans, regardless of whether or not they're expiring contracts.

it will be interesting to see who botts sees as part of the solution moving forward

I think the forwards have had a huge hand in the better overall play, most noticeably on the back check and not cheating up ice

Never liked him during his rookie year. Seemed too tentative, not much skill to warrant accepting that. He's played well since his horrendous first game. Kind of surprised.

Don't forget our boy Scott Wilson! Plays in 2 games, 2 sid wins...hmmmm. I guess, according to this board, that playing the right way is of no value.
No, he wasn't solely responsible ...He was however a contributor, not a subtractor, just like he was on the Stanley Cup Champion team last year.
But I'm bracing for the laughing to come on here who dont kbiw what a role player is.

The difference between his play with Kane, his play with Reinhart, and his play with Okposo is that Okposo can actually shield off defenders with the puck on his stick.

(Reinhart got knocked over, Kane lost control or fired a shot.)

Okposo controls the puck, brings defenders to him, and opens up the ice for Jack.

I think its a pairing Housley should keep together now that Kyle seems to be healthy again.

PS - these observations all made while sober so their accuracy could be suspect

Several look like they aren't giving 110% there.
Make the last 3 in each race do it again, maximum of 5 times in a row.
