According to Friedman the Canadiens were offered three huge pieces in exchange for Subban. Those pieces were forward Bo Horvat, defenseman Chris Tanev as well as the Canucks first round pick(5th overall). That is a staggering offer, one that would likely have the Canadiens looking much better today than they do currently, but it was the Canadiens GM who rejected the offer.

When Bergevin learned that the Columbus Blue Jackets would be picking French-Canadian Pierre-Luc Dubois at #3, Bergevin lost interest in the deal. This is despite the fact that players like Matthew Tkachuk and Clayton Keller would have very much been available to them in that position.

We are now roughly two years removed from that potential trade, and fans of the Vancouver Canucks as well as general manager Jim Benning are likely grateful they didn't make that deal, while fans of the Canadiens will be furious with Bergevin when they learn of it.

While this is purely speculation, it certainly looks like Bergevin has been far too concerned with bringing French-Canadian players to Montreal and this time it may have cost him and his organization in a major way.

POST-GAZETTE: Jason Mackey reports Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford isn’t listening to offers for one of his young goaltenders such as Tristan Jarry or Casey DeSmith. Rutherford also admitted the existence of trade talk earlier this season on frequently scratched defenseman Ian Cole, but hasn’t committed to trading him. Mackey also noted Oilers center Mark Letestu could be a good third-line center option for the Penguins.

If the Blues offered Kyrou straight up for Kane I think you have to take it

I'd go bigger since we have to retain a chunk of kane's salary

Kane, Bailey and Mccabe for Kyrou and Edmundson

we get the defender that WILL clear the front of our net

Depending on how far the team believes he is from impacting the NHL, we may be able to get a bit more, or even swap low and high picks... like Kane and a 5 for Kyrou and a 2. Dual position 200 foot player with speed. Needs strength. My guess is he's in the NHL 19-20, but what do I know.

Florida is expected to provide an update on James Reimer, who left Tuesday's game due to a lower-body injury, on Thursday.

Wednesday was a travel day for the Panthers, as the team prepares to face the Washington Capitals. Harri Sateri is in line to start Thursday's contest after Samuel Montembeault was called up from the minors on Wednesday.

Why cant people in this thread spell “lose?” Why do so many people say “All the Sabres do is loose.”

Bottling.

I bet Gallysano is turning over in his grave.

Not sure if this ever goes on in trade talks/negotiations. But i wonder if a team/teams asked to see what Kane can do away from Eichel. Perhaps that could be why hes on the 3rd line.

Excellent post:

Those were 2 of the guys I thought the sabres would/should be targeting.

Wonder if that's Rutherford looking for a bit more, or they are really off limits? Probably can't trade for matt murray either?

Let's get a three team deal and get Armia back since Kane will not be able to go back to Winnipeg.
