A few things I would ideally like to see happen in the off-season.
1) buy out Lehtera

2) let Manning walk in free agency

3) package Weise w/ higher end prospect even a pick as well to acquire a controllable young NHL forward.

- SimmerDown

agree, but pray like hell Lethera plays the best 30 games of his career starting after the all star break.

Manning trade for a Pick or include in a package with Weise, that and maybe a pick and you can get a decent 4th liner. They need a 4th liner with some size 6'3 225 that can actually skate.

We have reached math quota for the day.
Look out China we are catching up in math lol.

Flyers could have gone 14-0-68 and made the playoffs last year.

Who is this mystery 4th liner?

I know a lot of folks on here have been clamoring for moving Simmonds before his UFA status and next contract comes to fruition, especially for how much bang for buck the Flyers have been getting out of him. This is a tough one for me. He's on track with his great numbers as in years past but as a poster mentioned on here earlier, something feels slightly off with him—especially at even strength. I've noticed he keeps trying to make soft playmaking type plays instead of just shooting the puck on net and driving the net (which is where his game is at his best, IMO). At the beginning of the season I was against moving Simmonds. I feel like I'm more open to moving him - certainly not at the TDL but before UFA.

Sestito come on down. How much you want to bet someone in the coaching staff falls in love with Ghoul though? Lappy seems to love the Rinaldo’s of the league.

I don’t think they do. They value the grit he provides and whatever other intangibles they can come up with. I don’t hate Simmonds - but I do not feel comfortable giving him a raise that he will surely be able to ask for.

I do agree he has played pretty Vanilla this year. Was injured at the start but just seems very meh all round. He’s kind of what Schenn was when he wasn’t scoring - warm body.

Provorov extension, Konecny extension, possible Simmonds extension, and both goalies UFA.

It would've been hard for me to imagine them going on a 10 game losing streak this year.

After that streak it was hard for me to imagine them playing well enough to get into the thick of of the playoff race.

Since I'm not that slow a learner, it's not hard for me to imagine any win-loss scenario for this team. lol

They're a playoff bubble team and myriad things can/will happen along the way to April 7.

Buckle up...it's going to be a bumpy ride!

they won 10 straight and missed the playoffs last year.

they've already lost 10 straight this year.

the laws of physics demand they make the playoffs.

I think Simmonds game recently has been much better than it was for a while. Not opposed to trading him before UFA but i don't think it happening before this years TDL.

By trading Schenn they allowed themselves to take a wait and see approach with Simmonds. They may want to keep him for their own push next season. It's not the end of the world if he walks as a UFA.

Well in all honesty Simmonds actually does deserve a raise from his previous contract. He's played very well over the stretch of that contract putting up great numbers and even becoming an All-Star. The problem is his raise will be pitted against the entire market of the NHL with UFA status. Another problem is for a player of his size and game - the shelf life dwindles at such a faster rate than in previous generations with the NHL's trend of speed and youth.

It's a tough spot to be in for any GM. Do you hope for a hometown discount and a 3-4 year extension at 5.5-6M a year?

Interesting decision. One could kind of ask which the organization values more. Getting something of value for Simmonds or having better odds at making the playoffs?

- assuming they don’t re sign him as a UFA. I’m not comfortable giving him a bigger contract. Too reliant on other players for his points. He is a nice player though. Tough call.

If they do resign Simmonds, you're talking about Provorov making maybe $6-$7M more, Simmonds probably a $2.5M raise, and Konecny maybe a $3M raise. I know that all other roster spots will be filled by guys on ELCs and that none of the players you mentioned will get raises on their new deals, but I'd rather have the cap space. Just make Lehtera the 13th forward or waive him next year and be done with it.

It would be nice if the team actually was able to get a hometown discount for once.

There are retard GM’s our there that would be willing to overpay for Simmonds. I don’t doubt that.

Maybe we can trade him for McDavid. It's been a while since Chiarelli did something completely idiotic.

Thing is - I don’t mind overpaying for certain players. Giving Prov or Konec a bit more money to me isn’t the end of the world cap wise.

It’s overpaying for guys like MacDonald or Weise that is the foolish thing to do. I’m just torn on Simmonds. His vanilla play hasn’t really helped him in my books this year anyway. Not that, that matters.

no idea but I would probably comb the bottom tier teams and their 3rd lines or maybe someone has one in the AHL. As long as Weise is gone, I'm good

I don't see anyway he takes a hometown discount. His contract now is a discount. His agent will be looking to get him one more big deal.

I couldn't find anyone that fit the bill besides Brian Boyle, and I want nothing to do with him (good on him returning from cancer, though).

That was me.

Something just seems off. For all the talk about his grit I really don't see it. He doesn't seem to get in on the forecheck and like you said he makes a lot of soft plays and turns the puck over.

Just something doesn't feel right and if I can get a great deal for him at the TDL i might take it as long as I am getting somethng that can help now and the future.

They should be looking to pillage that club.

I think LA and Anaheim might be willing to do something foolish to keep their windows open.

Oh you mean that call up that caused mass hysteria in this thread because he wasn't Lindblom.

Regardless how you want to spin it, the Flyers have better results with Manning in the line up. That's why Sanheim was sent down.

- Baxter27

I am not even sure how to communicate with someone who actually thinks that is a logical argument.

You are actually saying Manning/Sanheim is the difference in winning or losing? You actually think Goulbourne playing 5 minutes a night has lead to 7 wins?

The Flyers went on a 10 game win streak last year without Coots in the lineup....clearly a better team without him

5 years at 6- 6.5

cap will go up enough to minimize year 4 and 5 of the contract
