Not sure why anyone would say OVI has leadership issues, he is one of the best captains in the league and one of the few who leads by example.

As for Kane, I actually think he would fit in really well for the Caps. The question is getting him at a good deal. Kane is a top 6 forward so the Caps can't deplete there bottom 6 for him.

Why is he one of the "best captains in the league"? By what measure can that claim be verified?

I can only imagine people might suggest there are leadership issues because OV has demonstrated a lack of defensive commitment in the past and his team, lead by him, has never made it past the 2nd round in the playoffs.

I'd judge that based on how highly his team talks about him, how he leads by example. Unlike some other captains around the league.

If you've watched Ovi's game over the years, he had a couple seasons where he was all offense but that has not been the case for a while now.
The not going to the 3rd round thing, has nothing to do with Ovi. Look up his playoff numbers, he is a machine. Even last year when he was playing hurt and could barely walk, he played amazing.

Hockey is a team sport and if you look at the Caps they haven't really had a good team other than the last few years.

Wat. They've had a good team for 11 years. 7 times led the division, 2 times were second. Total of 6 playoff series won in that timespan. They just can't take that next step.

No, look at those cap teams a bit closer, they were one line teams that carried them into the playoffs. with help from amazing goal tending.

Only in the last really 2-3 season have they had anything more then one really good line.

People always make the comparison between Ovi and Crosby. I don't like to compare the two because they play a completely different style. However, if you take Ovi off the Caps in those years, that team was nothing. You take Crosby of the Pens and they are still good enough to win a cup.

Tanner, the Caps underlying numbers have been less than stellar and the second half of the season will most likely bare this out. Trading two 1st rounders plus Samsonov for Kane who will be a UFA would be the definition of insanity and desperation. The Caps have work to do on the back end and need to get guys like Bura going if they are going to compete.

Here's a better trade idea for you. The Caps should consider trading Holtby. Yep, that's right, Holtby. The Caps could promote Grubauer to the starters role and they would get a good return on him. The Caps could more than likely obtain a 1st and a very high end prospect at a minimum which would allow them to transition on the fly. With Grubs and Samsonov coming over next year they would be fine in net for years to come.

ummm.... you want to trade Holtby???? A perennial vezina nominee from a team thats in the top 5 ranks for Stanly?? I think Grubs is good too, but you need stellar goaltiending come playoffs, especially with that questionable D-core.

No one doubts this guy's ability...

but there is a reason he was pushed out in Winnipeg, a team where he really should have been one of the franchise players.

Why is Buffalo ready to pass on him already?

I know it's hearsay, but Kane is a notorious d-bag.

Don't really think that is what the Caps need - we tried that already (see Mike Ribeiro).

Washington needs strong leaders. Not pugnacious turds.

I disagree with the whole premise that Washington could have a great playoff run in a weak Eastern Conference.

The bottom of the conference(the non-playoff teams) are fairly week, but if you look at the playoff teams(and since we're talking about a playoff run we should probably be looking at the playoff teams) - I think the Eastern playoff teams are just as strong and maybe even stronger than the playoff teams out West.

I hear ya. But it would give the Caps a few more options with what they could get back.

Lol. I feel 'turd' offers more than calling someone a shihthead.

Pugnacious is right up there with Brian Burke's favorite, truculent.
