Fair point.
It'll break my heart to see him go though
At least they extened burrows though.
What teams would be high on wanting him? St. Louis maybe. (Pageau that is)_ - david22
Think Elliot Freidman said the Pens were also interested. I think he could fetch an ok return. It’s too bad some fan favourites will have to go, but if you want to resign Karlsson, Stone, and Duchene, it’s best to start trimming now while you aren’t competitive.
I think a 2nd and something else would be fine.

How much Salary would the sens need to retain to make Ryan trade-able? |

i'd say you retain 3.5 and you get a 2nd round pick back.
bobby ryan at 4 mil, on a better team, is probably pretty decent |

it sucks, but if the team is going to rebuild it might be something to look at.
are teams allowed to retain cap hit, but not salary.....i'm sure that's something (frank)head melnyk would want to look at |

He then spends the rest of his time playing at the level he did int he playoffs last year.
Just because. |

At this point, I just want us to keep losing.
If Anderson Starts, 7-1 Blues
If Condon Starts, 6-1 Blues |

I still think moving Hoffman or Brassard is a huge mistake.
Our team needs goals and Hoffman is our best goal scorer
Brassard and Stone have had chemistry that should be kept in tact
I don't think we need a full rebuild, just a bit of retooling
Trade Pag, Smith, Burrows, Johnny O, Ceci. etc
Moving forward you keep building with
Hoffman - Duchene - Ryan
Dzingle - Brassard - Stone
Chabot - Karlsson
Dion - Harpur
and you bring in Brown, White, Chlapik, Dahlin (see what I did there), etc and do some NHL development and then start fresh next year - Maverick1818
Absolutely, 100% correct on every word you said. I was gonna bold key parts of your post, but the whole thing would have been bold. Spot on, stole the words from my mouth... ere... finger tips in this case. |

If they could, I'd imagine a lot of Sabres would be out the door. |

From the Sens prespective it makes a ton of sense.
It's convincing another team I'd be worried about. - david22
Either way, the point is to not keep him. And he's only on a 1 year contract, so his $1M won't be here next season. |

Basically this whole season is a low point, hopefully the team ends up with a pick that will have an impact for years to come. Besides trading away whatever scraps they can by the TDL this year, while not over reacting and trading useful players to save money (see Hoffman, Mike) the biggest question mark is EK65. I love the guy and it would be tough seeing him somewhere else, but if his ankle never gets back to where it was last year, a $12M contract is going to make the Phaneuf contract look like a dream in a few years. (And it would go until 2027!!) Lotta pressure on whomever has to figure that out.. |

Gotta wonder if it is just slow rehab/getting used to the ankle or if it is a permanent set back. Every hockey person will say missing summer training and training camp gets a player off on the wrong foot in the season a lot of the time.
He hasn’t look like himself out there most of the season. However, he kinda looks like he has mailed it in more than struggling with an injury at times. I think losing really affects his game. Like it’s not even losing where you can come back right now. It’s blow outs, way behind in the standings, and weak ass goals. Not the greatest trait of a leader, but every captain has some learning curves to go through.

Similar to eichel last year if I recall.
He missed training camp, and was slow to start when he eventually returned. |

If we're going to lose anyways, it might be worth sitting the guys like Karlsson, Ryan, etc o make sure they are 100% healed |

according to CapFriendly's CBA FAQ - No
https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#retained
When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. The following requirements must be met to retain salary:
The percentage retained cannot exceed 50 percent of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and Salary Cap Hit.
The same percentage must be retained for both the player’s salary and Salary Cap Hit, and cannot be modified.
All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season.
Teams cannot retain an aggregate amount of more than 15 percent of the Salary Cap Upper Limit.
Players’ contracts are limited to 2 retained salary transactions per contract.

1. Tomorrow NCC announces their next decision on LeBreton.
2. Senators will be authorized to put in place $3b in financing for LeBreton.
3. Melnyk (according to Garrioch) may not attend event.
4. Sens will be represented by a partner from the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment group.
5. This is same group that did Landsdowne redevelopment.
6. Monday the CEO of Ottawa Sports and Entertainment (Bernie Ash) stepped down.
7. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era.

Couple big questions does Karlsson want to be part of a rebuild, does Duchene want to be part of a rebuild. They both have no choice for next year but after that i really doubt they do. The only way out for the SEns is to eat up some Dion and Ryan money it is the wisest hockey move they can make right now
These 2 contracts are anchors and have to go 1 way or another |

Karlsson - I'm iffy on Karlsson, I understand he is who is he but I've never liked his leadership skills, he reminds me of when Alfie gave up on the team publicly in the playoffs. With that being said I do will think we need to sign him and move forward.
Duchene - I think the future of Duchene depends on two things
#1. How we do next year, if we're in the bottom again, he's gone. If we are competing he'll sign. He's already said publicly that this is as close to being his home town as possible and he wants to bring a cup here.
#2. Hoffman, I think because of the chemistry they have on the ice and the scoring ability when they play on the same line, I think if Hoffman goes, Duchene does too.
With that being said, I also don't believe we need a rebuild, just a retooling and a better system. |

My amateur eye test of 65 says, uhoh danger.but it could be a blip afterall he does have the pedigree
i think its a 50% retool at this point, and our picks/prospects cupboards are not that full.
good point about Duchene but after what he just left i dont think he has the stomach to do it again, and i dont blame him
