The back read...holy hell

I don't even want to know what it was like around here when they weren't in playoff position. Yikes

- AllInForFlyers

This is what it was like... because you really want to know.

1) Coach Varsity never won anything anywhere. Why is he the coach?

2) Saint Ronnie is most over rated GM ever. Never done anything.

3) Giroux is not Captain material and is over the hill.

4) Couturier has absolutely no offensive upside. He sucks.

5) Should of traded Ghost when he had value.

Thats basically it.

Do you feel as if this issue goes higher than the coaching staff?

Talent evaluation at the NHL level has and will continue to be my biggest concern going forward with this team.

However, in this specific case, due to the sheer amount of time it took Hextall to send Sanheim to the AHL, I believe he thinks Sanheim is one of the 6 best D on the roster. He doesn't strike me as a guy who would micro-manage the coach with lineup decisions.

- JFlyers00

I think we can look at that and say that Hextall would prefer that Sanheim play at the NHL level but Hextall is an NHL GM and I think he sees that right now Sanheim clearly based on play this season is not one of the 6 best defenseman on the team. That's pretty clear.

So will Ronald let filppula walk like he did MDZ, or will he at least get a pick back?
- rinaldo

All depends on how he views the team at the deadline. As a playoff team I say he rides it out. As a lottery team I say he goes for the pick. Somewhere in between I'm not a psychologist so who knows.

WHY DO THE PATRIOTS GET TO PICK THEIR COLOR JERSEY FIRST

Alternates yearly I believe.

Sanheim has been better this year at 5v5 than Ghost was at 5v5 his rookie year. This "it" factor you speak of has more to do with Ghost's 103 PDO at 5v5 his rookie year compared with Sanheim's 95 PDO this year.

But this coaching staff has shown it values results over process especially when it comes to the D men.

- JFlyers00

Your last statement is a contradiction. It's actually the opposite. With young defenseman they put the process first.

Hagg isn't being properly evaluated, though. He's been given minutes and matchups he's not fully equipped to handle and is playing with a partner who can't pick up the puck moving slack, and is therefore getting crushed in shot attempts, and eventually that will result in a lot of goals against. PDO always trends back towards 100.

- Feanor

That's confusing evaluation with need. Unfortunately right now the Flyers need to place Hagg in tough defensive situations due to the team depth. It would be far better for a player like Hagg to break in playing a somewhat sheltered 3rd pair role but the Flyers right now need more until they can develop a better overall defense corps.

Only if he feels there is no center to fill the spot if he isn't brought back.

I agree Gudas owns some of it but Manning if I recall was on the far wall and didnt even read the play, that happen at least twice over the recent games. Last game he took so long to move the puck he had his pocket picked, which led to zone time, which led to a PP and that led to a goal. Again, all D make mistakes.

its going well now, most players are playing well, when some of the other D struggle that is when you really notice.

- wcorvette

Manning was on the strong side exactly where he was supposed to be in the Flyers system. I'm not expecting Manning to play mistake free hockey.

Brayden also disappeared for five weeks after Schwartz went down and, even before that, went five straight without a point when the Blues ran into tight-checking games.

Couturier, far and away, has been the more consistent, less streaky of the two.

- bmeltzer

plus, couturier doesn't look like amanda bines.

Hagg because he has potential to improve. But his play this year is not much different than what Schultz did in 15-16.
- Feanor

My hope is that Hagg matures into a player similar to Mattias Ekholm whom I've been a fan of for some time now. Similar size, playing style and grit. Hagg has a ways to go yet but that is the bar I've set for him.

That post wasn't even directed at you, but whatever. I disagree. Based on what Hextall has said in the past, I highly doubt Hexy leaves him on the NHL roster to play 6 minutes of game time in 30 days if he truly believed he was the #7. He would have been sent to the AHL sooner IMO if what you say is correct.

How about Gudas not taking ONE penalty since his return from the suspension, as quoted on the broadcast on the weekend.
That to me in unbelievable!

It's obvious to any informed eye that Manning is the better player right now. That's why he has been playing, and Sanheim isn't.

False. Empirical evidence is Sanheim not getting any PP time. Why is that?

If you're the Flyers and make the playoffs who do you want in the first round? I'm thinking we could beat NJ or Columbus in a series.
- FreshFlyer

i don't want columbus. not interested in bob finding his playoff game against the flyers. no thanks.

He also seems much more reluctant to throw a big hit, which was one of his strengths (and weaknesses).

I think lately he has been hitting within the flow of the play rather than doing what you alluded to and taking himself out of position to make a big hit.

The defense will develop fine, the plugs will continue to plug. This is what's important:

True, I hate when he goes for the big hit and ends up leaving his D partner out to dry. That said, players on the opposing team did seem more hesitant when he was on the ice before the suspension, and I haven't seen the same apprehension lately.
