I think Sanheim could possibly match Ghost's point production in time, but he doesn't have the same dyanmic style as Ghost. Ghost is a more exciting player, and has really come on defensively. I think Sanheim will be more of a "standard" 2-way defenseman, maybe a prime J-Bo type.
- jmatchett383

The biggest difference IMO between Ghost and Sanheim and there are plenty of differences but Ghost doesn't stop skating he is always moving as for Sanheim he often was caught flat footed and wasn't able to find himself in a good position.

I totally hear you on that but whoever it was claimed they were holding Sanheim back in reference to how they handled Ghost his rookie year. Ghost was ready, and produced offensively. Sanheim kind of seemed like a deer in the headlights and was not ready, nothing wrong with that. Some players need more time.

You mean when Streit got injured and Ghost was brought up and immediately put on PP1 and shot 25%? Good point and fair observation.

Why are some people pieces of human excrement?
Why don't they go back to their holes in Trollsville?

and how did Ghost look compared to Sanheim 5 on 5? Sanheim was nowhere near as ready as Ghost was. Not saying Ghost was a stud defensively but one had an It factor factor and the other looked scared out there

Kind of tough to get into a groove as a young player being spanked and having ice time cut for every mistake.

Not being put on PP2 where your offensive skills would better show you are ready to contribute.

I think the words third pairing PP specialist were used quite often

Could the mods please remove this guy. If he causes BigE to post less it would be a big loss.

Point was that he was confident and one was scared. The kid couldn't beat out Manning for a spot, he is where he belongs getting ice time.

Konecny has been playing on PP2 as of this weekend...Manning got no PP time against WSH
- YuenglingJagr

Which was good, but not super surprising since TK played regularly on PP2 earlier this season. But not giving Sanheim a real chance to contribute on PP2 while he was up is very hard to explain since PP2 has been bad all year. I believe Lehtera is actually -2 in his 30 minutes of PP time.

I don't think Sanheim is strong enough yet for the NHL he was pushed around a lot. I love to see and follow the growth of young prospects but I'm a realist and Sanheim isn't there yet. Maybe instead of rushing him back to the minors they took the extra time and worked on strength and conditioning exercises just because one is not on the ice does not mean one isn't improving in other areas.

Why does everyone have a facination with arguing over fourth line plugs... PEB CVDV last year... DW, JL, TL, TG this year...

Thing is, some of these kids are going to struggle for a while when making the jump. Make mistakes and perhaps even be outplayed by guys like Manning. Although I disagree he was truly outplayed.

You have to stick with them through it.

Sanheim has been better this year at 5v5 than Ghost was at 5v5 his rookie year. This "it" factor you speak of has more to do with Ghost's 103 PDO at 5v5 his rookie year compared with Sanheim's 95 PDO this year.

But this coaching staff has shown it values results over process especially when it comes to the D men.

I agree he has to get stronger, when Hagg was in his second year at LHV they said he wasn't aggressive enough, you could never tell now. As they get older they naturally keep some weight, that with a strong off-season and we should see a real good Sanheim next season

What does that have to do with the very correct point he is making?
- MBFlyerfan

Hagg isn't being properly evaluated, though. He's been given minutes and matchups he's not fully equipped to handle and is playing with a partner who can't pick up the puck moving slack, and is therefore getting crushed in shot attempts, and eventually that will result in a lot of goals against. PDO always trends back towards 100.

This is where I am on Sanheim. I think he needs a little time in the weight room and next year he will be fine.

There's a huge and obvious gap between the effectiveness of Provorov and Hagg as defensemen.
- Feanor

There is also a huge and obvious talent and ability gap between the two players. The point is that the Flyers "flawed" method of evaluating defenseman doesn't seem to be an issue with those two players.

I do. What good does arguing that my eye test is better than yours do? At that point we may as well break out the ruler and have a Richard measuring contest.
