Not to mention how good Couturier is on the defensive side of things. I've always liked Schenn, thought he played hard as a Flyer, but the return they got for him was great in my opinion. Also, its not like team scoring has dropped off significantly without Schenn here. - FreshFlyer
The PK has, though! |

Lost in the ridiculousness of a coach playing Brandon Manning every night and forcing the GM to demote an immensely talented defensive prospect to get him game time, is the curious case of Dale Weise.
Weise played every game between December 4th and January 4th, and the Flyers went 10-3-1. Tonight he will miss his eight straight game as a healthy scratch.
- Feanor
I don't see how it's ridiculous that the coach continued to play the better player. Talent is one thing. Current level of play in the NHL is another.
There are complaints when Weise plays. There are complaints when Weise doesn't play. Go figure. |

cant answer that one. Maybe in practice he has shown some stuff and they are trying it out. No issue with it as the pk has been brutal.
Have they used ghoul on the pk yet? I am drawing a blank for some reason. - rinaldo

I'm arguing about it cause I don't really want to get into how the Flyers handling of Sanheim shows they have a fundamentally flawed method of evaluating defensemen that will be a significant drag on the team's performance until there is a change in management. - Feanor
How about how the Flyers fundamentally flawed method of evaluating defenseman handled Provorov and Hagg? The Flyers are a surging team right now who has one of the best records in the NHL over the last month or so.

If winning is how you determine the correct lineup, why change the winning lineup from December which featured Sanheim and Weise? |

I do find it funny that when they aren't winning it's "process, process, process!" and when they win it's just, "keep doing that thing that you're doing!" |

And when they lose in brutal fashion against the Rags with Manning allowing two players to get past him for breakaways in the first period, he plays the next game anyway because he's "better" than Sanheim. |

It's not the sole method, but the current lineup is working and the coach, who lord knows I don't always agree with, is trying to get this team in the playoffs.
IIRC, Sanheim was playing less than 10 mins per game the last few times he dressed. I think his development would be better served playing 20+ minutes at LHV.
Re Weise: I think he's out of the lineup because way too often he just goes through the motions and just doesn't leave it all on the ice. I don't particularly like Lehtera and hate him on the PK. It's why I'd like to see Hextall shop around a mid round pick to get a 4th line upgrade that can kill penalties. I'm also hoping to see Lindblom come up at some point which would knock Goul/Leier out of the lineup too.
One last thing re the D: it's really a shame Morin can't stay healthy as I think he'd be a better fit to replace Manning's role in the lineup than Sanheim. |

The way the Flyers handle defensemen are perfectly fine and similar to a lot of other teams in the league. If you are positionally sound and responsible in your own end they have no problems playing you as a young d-man, and that can be seen with Provorov and Hagg. Sanheim isn't as responsible as them on the defensive side of things so he isn't given the same level of trust and guaranteed playing time like they are. He will get there though sooner rather than later. |

Quick Carter Hart update. Named WHL goalie of the week for the 5th time of the season with a sparkling 2-0 record 0.50 GAA .980 SV stopping 48 of 49 shots faces.
Keep it up my young friend. |

I think horrible is a bit strong, but certainly there have been gaffs in his game. Certainly enough to warrant one or two games in the press box. |

I don't think there is a recent measure (eye ball test or fancy stats) that shows Manning playing well right now. |

I just want to point out that just because the rest of the league is doing it, it doesn't mean it's the best way to go about it. NHL teams make mistakes on talent evaluation, all the time. That's why you see bad trades. |

I haven't been down on Manning much this year, because I think he has been adequate as a bottom pairing guy this year, but recently, it seems like he has been bad. And I don't think putting him on PP2 is a good idea, given that he's going poorly right now. |
