I think Brindy was a much better give it their all guy. Richards had a lot of games that he coasted through, probably because of the toll his style took on his body. Also, if we're taking off-ice issues into account, he's definitely behind Primeau, Brindy, and Dineen. - jmatchett383
I have a bias when it comes to Richards was always one of my faves. Objectively speaking though I see where you are coming from. If Giroux brings the cup to Philly and hits second in all time Flyers scoring can you make a case for him to be considered as the best captain in team history or is Clarkie always going to take that spot? It's an interesting proposition for me just because I feel like there may have been more scoring back then so Giroux not catching Clarke in points doesn't really have all that much merit. I guess you can always say Clarke won 2 cups to Giroux's hypothetical 1.

Not enough to pass Clarke for #1 imho
Cup + passing Clarke in points still wouldn't be enough.

Yeah I could see why he was and still is an icon for the team. I personally never had the chance to watch him play because I was to young so wanted to get a feel where some of the rest of you guys might stand. If Giroux passed him in points for me he'd be the best all time but I doubt we see that anyway

Clarke will always be #1 for the Flyers much the same way that Crosby can never overtake Lemieux in Pittsburgh. He cannot be caught.
Dave Poulin and Rod Brind'Amour played every game the way that Richards did on his best days.
Giroux may move into the top-3 when it's all said and done, but unseating Poulin is unlikely.
Kevin Dineen had to steer the ship during the Flyers' worst days and did a great job. Primeau had to be the go-between during the Hitchcock years where there was apparently a large bridge from players to coach.
Again, I loved Richards, and I was sold that he was going to be the one to get us a Cup. But when all is said and done, he didn't do enough on and off the ice, to me, to merit a top-5.
Edit: Ghost's career thus far has been the poster child for this coaching staff valuing results over process. - JFlyers00
In the context of player development, Gostisbehere's play this season especially lately is the poster child for proving that this coaching staff process is the right way to develop young players.
I remember the whining in the past when Hakstol scratched Gostisbehere.
I would have went with Neuvirth for tonight's game. Ellliot has played way to much hockey the past 2 months and Neuvy has been lights out lately. But Hak's gonna Hak
