Marner clearly sucks and needs to be cut, not traded.

7th in scoring this year amongst all guys from the 2015 draft.

Unlike Nylander, who is 7th in scoring this year amongst all guys from the 2014 draft.

Why oh why can't Marner be more like Nylander and less like a bust?

McDonaugh is an interesting target. I haven't read Brooks' article. Was he suggesting you guys give up on the playoffs this season, cause I don't see how trading McDonaugh is going to help your chances to make them.
If that was the idea then maybe the Leafs would be tempted to trade some picks/prospects.

I confess I haven't watched any Rangers games this year not involving the Leafs, so I don't really have a handle on what ails them, but it seems to me that they are 10th in the league in goals for (Leafs are 6th) and 19th in the league for goals against ( Leafs are 21).

So the narrative that the Leafs need to trade some scoring for a good defenceman seems reasonable, but I guess I'm wondering why the Rangers would want to trade their defenceman with the most TOI/G for more scoring.

Kreider being out long term hurts them.. Plus, outside of Buchnevich and Skjei they don't have a lot of youth on their team.

Any update on McAvoy? Is he gonna be ok?

Where is Rick when you need him?

- PatC80

Charlie McAvoy underwent a procedure Monday to treat an abnormal heart rhythm.
McAvoy experienced heart palpitations during a game back on Nov. 26 and he was monitored for the condition afterward. He had a procedure called an ablation because of the high probability of recurrence, but it's not considered to be a dangerous issue. McAvoy is expected to be out of two weeks. Jan 22 - 4:16 PM

if you look at the sabres last 10 or so 1st round picks, you would say premium is a stretch there to.

Don't forget, they hired Mike Komisarek in a player development role.

That should explain everything

that would be a bold move

i'd pass though

It is interesting though.

I didn’t love Faulk when the leafs played them but it seemed like the whole team sucked in that 8-1 loss. I had Faulk early in my fantasy league but he wasn’t doing anything so I dropped him. I don’t watch many hurricane games though but I was under the impression he was a offensive/defenseman.

Also in order for that to work Matthews line would have to go against the top lines and still produce. They could do it but kadri is still very valuable to this team.

Seems like a fair trade but I would pass as well.

I see Mcdonagh going before Zucc just based on what he might get for his next contract along with his age. Id be willing to trade both tho

Could be worse. At least we didn't wind up with Dylan Strome.

In a redraft, we'd probably go for one of the three defenseman that were taken shortly after him, but it's not like Marner is a bust or something. He's a skilled young player hitting a rough patch. He'll eventually clean up his game.

I think I liked the suggestion I saw the other day of putting Marner with Kadri and Marleau. People think Marner needs to be better defensively, so why not putting him with guys that are actually good defensively, instead of two guys that are only going to teach him more bad habits?
Marner might also spark some offense on that line and get Kadri going again.

I get that Kadri's line is the shutdown line and Marner might be too much of a liability, but hey, give it a try. When given some good examples of defensive forwards to watch, he might actually learn something and turn into a more responsible player.

Rielly was amputated. Liljegren is dead. Leafs are trading for Gudbranson, aren’t they?
- Steven_Seagull

probably have to go after both Tanev and Gudbranson now...

Matthews, Nylander, Marner + 2 x 1sts at least.

Only downside to that is usually Kadri and Marleau are going up against the other team's best line to shut them down. BIG gamble and liability having him on there in that type of situation.

Honestly I think more the point to get Bozak replaced so we could have a second line where you have Brown/???/Marner as a solid unit. Brown is defensive enough to help cover Marner and if we could get a solid second line center in there it would make a huge difference I think.

It could definitely work putting marner with kadri and marleau. Marner did play a lot of pk in London. He may be trying to cover for him linemates by overthinking plays and winding up out of position.

That line needs a spark. They are playing to much defence and not producing. It will catch up with them unless they get on the attack.
