Nylander? No way. Why do people say JVR's value drastically drops and teams wont pay players with term because he is a UFA. But Mcdonaugh is on contract for a third of a season longer and it doesn't matter.

So having an extra year left vs being a pure rental makes no difference to you?

And what the hell does the bolded mean?

i think they're both worth about a prospect, 1st and 2nd - difference is quality.

with the extra year mcdonagh should get you a slightly better prospect and jvr probably only gets a conditional 2nd in that package.

Sure, makes a difference. Not enough to trade for a 20 year old who is controllable for the next 7 years.

what would you guys give up for Mcdonagh?

(I thought the Nylander idea was preposterous as well)

You laugh and you should, cause well, it's Chiarelli....

I really hope that he gets desperate and trades Darnell Nurse for Tyler Bozak, since RNH is out long term.

Gomez and Pyatt

But only if you also throw in Higgins and the rights to Valentenko.

I've been thinking about it and I don't know if there's anything that really makes sense.

I think it's relatively easy to come up with a price made of picks if he's a rental, but if he's guaranteed to sign an extension it gets dicey.

The extension would have to be reasonable term and amount, and the Rangers would probably ask for something that is antithetical to the way the Leafs are trying to do things (ie. try to grow your own talent instead of trading it away).

I don't see them as a trade match at all unless it's prospects for prospects. NYR sends younger D the Leafs way and the Leafs send younger Forwards to NYR who are having trouble cracking the team.

i think we have enough picks/prospects to give up a couple in a trade.

i'm not sure we'll want to give up quality (kapanen, liljegren or brown) to get a true top-pairing dman like mcdonagh or OEL.

my guess is the biggest name dman we have a shot at is hjalmersson. but more likely we spend a 2nd on a depth dman.

I read something about Vegas that I never really thought of in these terms...

What do SO MANY GOD DAMN teams need right now??? TOP FOUR D! Vegas got to pick up a top 4 d from as many teams as they wanted and that's why those 6 are doing so damn well. Add in great goalie, some wicked scorers and stupid Florida management and this team is good!

Definitely eating crow about them but it makes sense

Offense: Solid top 9 players all the way through + some top talent
Defense: 3rd/4th Defenders all the way through
Goalie: 2x SC Winner

Breaking it down after the success they've had I definitely had it wayyyy wrong.

Can you imagine how much stronger they would be if Brendan Leipsic was any good.

Botterill will have a lottery selection in 2018. He will also receive another premium first rounder when he trades Kane. I don’t think it is outlandish to think Botterill can receive a first rounder and a premium prospect in exchange for Reinhart.
