I did. 1.5 something Reinhart was 1.75.

Edit: 1.33 for Svechnikov this year. Didn't know about the injury. But Reinhart also missed time in his draft year.

- Wetbandit1

Yea idk what to tell you other than his stats are deceiving based of the injury. There’s a reason he’s ranked so high.

I don’t think there’s any argument that svechnikov is an elite talent. Just watch video of him. There’s no doubt in my mind he should be one of the top 3 taken.

So Jack is Jason Spezza?
- Wetbandit1

I think your missing the point

You just have a elite combination like Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf

The argument isn't whether he's an elite talent. it's whether that will actually translate into production at the NHL level.

Not in my mind but sure you always wonder. I could definitely understand if you only follow the stats

Im basing this entirely on the eye test, i haven't looked at either players advanced stats.

Bennett had everything you'd want from a top prospect. And then he didn't.

tons of guys have high end to elite talent but for whatever reason can't put it together at the pro level.

I happen to like Svechnikov and the thought of him with Eichel is exciting, but i bet a lot of people said that about Bennett.

There are tons of holes in this roster

The only thing they have is a true #1 center

If they end up at 1st overall and Arizona is at #2 and they would consider swapping picks with moving OEL you would absolutely have to think about that.

Other than Middelstat there are no true top 6 forwards in the prospect pool for the Sabres at this point.

OEL Risto Guhle will round out the top 3 defensemen plus I am assuming a defensive prospect will be coming back for Kane and then maybe Reinhart as well.

If you want to replenish the stock that's how you get defensemen that are further along and you draft whoever you think is the best forward in this draft assuming Arizona takes Dahlin.

This isn't just about getting the best player it is about building the best team.

Taking a defensemen 1st overall is risky

Ekblad
Erik Johnson
Chris Phillips
Bryan Berard
Ed Jovanovski

The last 5 defensemen draft 1st overall in the last 25 years

I would take OEL and draft a forward...

You're filling 2 major holes on this team

Also didn't junior say Sean Day was going to be 1st overall?

- Stripes77

A lot of us were wrong on that one; though I didn't say he was going 1OA. I said he could make a run at 1 just after Jack's draft, but I guess that's a distinction without a difference.

I knew a lot of local hockey parents and peers who had siblings/kids in Day's age group when he got his exceptional status.

Kucherov, late second rd pick played less then 10 minutes 4 times in his rookie year

IMO this is how any player with top 6 upside should be treated

Until we see baptiste/smith/Nylander

And to a lesser extent Bailey

With Eichel, it means nothing. Nolan sucks, and all of these wingers will suck playing opposite of Nolan with Larsson as their center. It's a waste of time to even have Baptiste here, but Girgs and Wilson hustle, so...

Idk that I’m making excuses
When he played with O’Reilly, he scored
When he got bumped to the 4th line,
he didn’t

I get your point by about his style of play
But what I’m saying is that these guys are extremely unlikely to produce on the 4th line

And if we wanna see if they can play in the top9, then we need to leave them there for an extended period

I see no point to bringing a prospect up to play 8min on the 4th line

- jdfitz77

If it's Nylander, I'm with you. With Bailey, he's getting very close to the point of being considered a depth forward instead of a prospect. He's had his opportunities and squandered them.

I never did a ton of research on him, but from what I did read it seemed like he was a can't miss. He probably read those too and got lazy.

He just didn't have the mental make up for it.

The dude was a man child in it's most literal form. He was something like 6'3 220 at 14 years old! But the drive wasn't there like it was with Tavares and even Ekblad.

Dude was constantly out of shape, late to practices and whole bunch of other off ice poop.

Not that it's really a fault of his. He was a kid acting like a kid, but that was the problem. Something the geniuses who gave him exceptional status completely whiffed on.

The pressure from that probably did some major damage, who knows where hed be if he was just another prospect.

Hopefully he can pull it together as he (hopefully)matures, because he's certainly got the talent.
