Just tired of Q taking all the heat

The Bowmans are a bigger problem than Q

The contracts with all the NTC are a joke & have this team in a terrible spot

- Goalie-33

To me its as if they lined everything up with Hossa' s retirement, I mean LTIR, they must of felt this way because of all the moves trading Nik made no sense to me.

It is time for some BLOCKBUTER trades & the Bowmans have no clue of what to do

Bowman has said a million times "I like this team"

We'll see, I'm going to be patient, pissed off watching the games, but patient with the rebuild

What is Bowman suppose to say, man my team really sucks? Common

Of course! He should give them failing player evals in the press too and then commence with his BLOCKBUTER trades.

How about be honest & admit he has yet again made more mistakes & the team needs a rebuild

Nah he won't admit to this team failing

Or to the contracts he has handed out

Starting with the Bickell deal

All I know is I give Bowman a couple of years to rebuild this.

Wonder where the Bolts would be if they fired Cooper and Yzerman for last year's season

Showing patience is fair. As long as there is a clear plan I can live with some short term pain.

Forsling with a goal and 8 shots tonight. Somebody is motivated to get back to Chicago. Love it!

I can’t blame the Hawks for the Toews and Kane contracts. The team had won two Cups and was coming off a Game 7 OT loss to the Kings in the WCF, Toews (26) and Kane (25) were the chosen marketing stars, the salary cap had been rising, and the NHLPA reportedly pressured them/their agent to take top dollar. Stanbo had no leverage but to give them what they wanted, since McD rightly couldn’t let Hawks repeat Dollar Bill’s practice of allowing the team’s best/most popular players (Belfour, JR, Chelly) to leave.

Kane has been worth it. Toews, after his great performance in helping them win a third Cup, has clearly underperformed the past 2-1/2 years. But he didn’t suddenly devolve from one of the greatest competitors ever into a no-try bum. IMO, injuries and wear and tear are clearly the reason for his demise. I also don’t have a problem with Crow’s $6M, 6 year contract, which although criticized by many at the time, has turned out to be good value.

However, most of SB’s other major moves (Bickell’s 4 year $16M contract, Leddy and Sharp trade delays, giving Danault away for a has-been and a never was, acquiring 40 year-old Timmonen for what turned out to be two 2nd round draft choices) have been terrible, topped off by the worst of all, the Seabrook contract, which we all hated the moment it was announced. While I’m sure McD was consulted before that contract was entered, he probably relied (and certainly will tell Rocky he relied) on SB and Scotty for that decision (and perhaps Q as well, who we all know loves his veteran D-men.)

As to Q, he was a good (not great) coach when he had the deep rosters and high-performing core of the Cup teams. Now that he doesn’t, his message to the room, like his PP and line shuffling, has gotten old, and I highly doubt he will be back next year. The question is whether Rocky and McD, who strongly favor stability, will also get rid of Stanbo.

Justin, and other posters, assuming (safely) the Hawks don't make the playoffs, two questions: What do you think the Hawks should do after the season? What do you think they will do?

At times Gus dominated NHL games, so I can't say I'm surprised. This guy will be a Top 4 NHL dman very soon and for years, IMO. He is the best building block on D that they have. He is 21 and was a late bloomer so I'm optimistic about him. Here's hoping guys like Jokijarhu, Krys, Mitchell can contribute in a hurry. I just don't see Rutta, Kempny, Oesterle, and Gustaffson as reliable enough dmen to be a really good NHL team. Murphy we will see but I like his size and edge. 5 has the occasional pinch or neutral zone issue but I rarely see him get beat 1v1. He starts getting comfortable and then after a scratch he will look shaky. Let him play and develop on the third pair with Seabrook.

Compared to Erik Gustaffson, Forsling looks like a best of combination of Larry Robinson, Serge Savard and Denis Potvin.

Stan has made some good moves and bad moves, but make a GM who hasn’t. If you’re going to lost his bad moves then list the good ones too. Paint and accurate picture and give credit where credit is due. I can live with the contracts for Toews, Kane and Crawford but the other moves were not good.

Some of Stan’s good moves include

- acquiring averagely from Floria at 50% cap hit
- acquiring Michael Frolik
- signing Panarin
- signing TvR
- signing Raanta
- signing Darling (and trading him for a 3rd round pick when it was clear he was leaving)
- Shaw for 2 second round picks and drafting DeBrincat
- acquiring Forsling for Clendening
- acquiring Panik for Morin
- acquiring Duclair for Panik when he tanked
- acquiring Murphy for Hjalmarsson
- acquiring Oduya from the Jets
- acquiring Vermette as a rental
- signing Richards to a cap friendly short term deal
- getting a 5th round pick for John Scott
- signing Rutta
- signing Kempny
- signing Gustafsson
- signing Oesterle
- signed Kampf
- signed Highmore
- signed Kero
- signed Fortin

I think Murphy and Forsling will be very important pieces of the Blackhawks’ defense in the future. Murphy needs to play regularly and have Q show some confidence in him. Hopefully the time in Rockford gives Forsling what he needs to bounce back ASAP.

This Hawks' demise blog has more comments than every other HB blog combined.
- EnzoD

I have my own opinions about how good or bad Toews, Keith and the rest of the boys are from shift to shift, how great or incompetent Q is as a coach from game to game and how successful or unsuccessful Bowman is from trade to trade.

I don’t know which of the above scenarios is true or false..... so in that respect I know as much or as little as every other poster on the board.

We have as many comments as we do because we have a rabid fan base and a whole bunch of people who are passionate about the Hawks. I think many of the comments are insightful, many are funny and some are plain whacked. But I enjoy them all and look forward to reading them every day.

Keep the thoughts and ideas coming.

Without Tallon there is "0" Cups

Gretzky greatest player = terrible coach hence Bowman great Coach = terrible GM

88 is still a -3 stop all the 88 luv he is the biggest problem on the PP total lack of production & always wants his drop pass for entry into O zone total selfish player
Horrid 5 on 5

Why do you always bash Kane? He's been outstanding these past few seasons putting up career numbers and winning trophies. He also has a history of performing in the playoffs, and has led this team to 3 Cups.

Like....i get why you complain about everything else.....but why Kane? How can you possibly have a problem with Kane of all things?

- SimpleJack

Because he is a sniveling little child who wanted Kane to sign his jersey, and Kane didn't. So now all he does is rip on him.

alot can happen in 35 games....as Q often states: things change quickly in our business...

they could go on run or completely crash and burn or muddle along alternating wins and losses...

additional injurys, the return of craw, some of the young could begin to shine or crap out...

that is all to say making summer decisions now is not possible...

but a look at the standings now clearly suggests they are done: 7 points behind the aves (who somehow lost tonight) with 3 other teams to pass...

so stanbow will be looking to get draft picks: bye bye bouma or wingels or both; sharp may go but he has some say in that; i suspect a dman or 2 could also be shipped...most likely franzen and/or kempny both UFA...

unlike others i don't think Q gets fired unless the bottom completely falls out and they end up finishing with 10-20-5 disaster...

Darth, first of all, I said most (not all) of SB's MAJOR moves have been terrible.

Going down your list, I'm not sure what you meant in the first good move you listed. I agree that acquiring Frolik, Panarin and Oduya the first time were good. Richards recruited the Hawks, so that was no-brainer. Vermette was an overpay that worked out after Q had to press-box him. The return for Shaw was good, but the decision to move Shaw in the first place is questionable, since what he added to the team was in Q's words "irreplaceable" and in fact hasn't been replaced in terms of heart, grit, and going to the net. Most of your other listed moves (acquiring ADB, Forsling, Duclair, Murphy, Rutta, Kempny, Gustafsson, Oesterle, Kampf, Highmore, Kero, Fortin) still haven't proven whether or not they were good or bad. Like you, I certainly hope they turn out beneficial to the Hawks.

the was 2 2nds for a 40 year old who had not played in a year and had a NTC clause and $850k games played bonus. that was a Joke.

Eliot friedman in 30 thoughts mentions Q could be in trouble.

- kmw4631

Where did he mention that?? Did you ACTUALLY read what he said??....

12. I’m amazed at the rumours out of Chicago that Joel Quenneville could be in trouble. If he wants a change, that’s one thing. But getting fired? Really? Quenneville would be unemployed as long as he wanted to be unemployed. And someone could very well drop a Babcock-style contract on him.
