Will a new coach make Toews perform like a 1C again?
Will a new coach make Seabrook a Top Pair Dman again?
Will a new coach make the AHL caliber defense NHL caliber? - EnzoD
It's the Gm that must go now |

How about recognizing that he's just 20 years old, first year pro experience (maybe he should be in Rockfish after all), has excellent ice vision, hands....potential.
Most of the forwards have done nothing in weeks.
Giving up on his upside now doesn't make much sense. - StLBravesFan
The teams that are winning have speed, skill, AND size. Not with every player, but enough distribution of these elements across the roster for role players to bring their talents forward as a part of a package. The universal lack of toughness on the Hawk roster just exposes guys like ADB as yet another soft player that can be run off of the puck. Experience likely won't fix that.

Patrick Kane, Nick Schmaltz, Brent Seabrook, Vinnie Hinostroza and Artem Anisimov worked on some new power-play stuff at practice today. They then spent over 10 minutes huddled with coach Kevin Dineen bouncing ideas off one another.
Kane: "Some healthy discussion. Just some new ideas. Maybe get some different looks and create opportunities. Obviously you're going to work on it and try to talk about it when things aren't going well.
"We definitely have to improve in that area."
All that tells me is that the players are finally rising up and saying, we don't buy into your "system" anymore. Here is what we think you should do. Not surprising that Kane is leading that effort, since he is such a student of the game. |

Kane is getting paid after this season, but I do like McCabe. Maybe we can flip Kane after we pick him up. I'm down for ditching Anisimov, ADB has a lot of offensive upside but has the D ability of Isaiah Thomas from the Cavs. |

You are correct... Your veterans and others who have had three plus years in the NHL HAVE DONE NOTHING but yet you got people putting a rookie under the bus even though he is your 4 th best scorer on the team. We got a lot more issues on this team than DCat! |

Patrick Kane said there was a "healthy discussion" and some "new ideas" about how to approach the power play. Should be interesting to watch tomorrow.
Maybe it didn't include Keith and Toews and they thus opted out of practice today? - pdx2ord
its almost february they are last...desperate for wins...losers of 4 str at home...
and now they are having a "healthy" discussion about the pp...

McCabe is a guy that likes to lay the body. He put Laine to sleep last year with a devastating and CLEAN center ice step up. He has good upside and the attitude the Hawks need more of. Cap increase, getting Anisimov's nearly $5mil off the books. What do you think Evander will get in salary? $6 mil? $7 max? In theory the Hawks should be able to afford that with Hossa's LTIR space and a rise in the Cap. EKane is 26, big, fast, can finish and lays the body. Just the type of guy the Hawks need, IMO. Kreider is another guy I'd love to have. |

Agreed - that is why I have been most outspoken about the "Captain". Starts at the top, but plenty of weaknesses all around the roster for sure.
Starts with deciding what kind of team they want to be, and filling the roles based upon that. Pure skill and finesse just isn't the ticket.

That would be a small line. If the team is at all worried about the abuse Toews takes, then putting him with two short players is not a recipe for success.
I'd love to see Anisimov on that line, purely because he can play left wing and goes for the dirty points. - TexasHawk
Saad certainly isn't preventing Toews from being abused -- I haven't seen Saad hit anyone all year. Indeed, ADB hits more, and has more heart, than this year's Saad. |

EKane - Toews - Duclair?
Might be interesting to watch. It'd be funny that Toews would be the slowest guy on the line. Not trying to rag on him, but the other two are burners. |

If ADB played like Theo Fleury, OK. But he is not even 5'9". Dude gets rubbed off of EVERY puck ALL the time. - Return of the Roar
Not only is that not true, he's a freaking 19 year old rookie. Cut him some slack. He battles hard. He forecheck, hit, and took the puck form a much larger stralman just last night. |

ok, so then why cut em' out of your life if they start a rebuild?
Especially if its one that gets started by trading Kane? I'm not saying i think its gonna or that i want it to happen, but he would bring back a big ass haul, or at least he should.
Saying there would be no reason to watch if Kane was dealt just sounded dramatic. Youre still a fan of the team |

*picks up mic*....That was not only a new coach, but a new GM who made a handful of significant roster changes. I agree Q should be gone, but Bowman should be too. LA, Pitt, and Boston ALL cleaned out the GM and Coaching staff and they are all on the right track towards Cup Contention. |

You might want to check out the Kings lately. They have freefallen from their hot start. Barely better than us at this point. |

Fair point. Boston and and Pittsburgh are both trending in the right direction, though. And really Pitt is the poster child for this change as they won 2 cups after making the GM/Coach changes. |

I agree with this. I would be a bigger fan of Bowman/Q going than a lot of their players. Do they need to make roster moves? hell yes.
However, a new voice or change of direction could be a big boost to a lot of players on this roster. Great evidence is something like their power play. How many times will they continue to try the SAME thing with ZERO success before a change is finally made? |

Kane is the type of player who is so smart, skilled, and dedicated that he can be a Top 20 offensive player until he is in his late 30s. You simply cannot trade him bc you cannot replace what he does. Seabrook, 2018 Toews, Anisimov and even 2018 Keith you can replace much easier. I still think that Keith should not be moved bc he is the only reliable Dman on the entire team. Patrick Kane IS the Franchise, and maybe Jonathan Toews was more of a passenger to Marian Hossa than any of us would have ever thought during their run of dominance..... - EnzoD
Martin St. Louis comes to mind. Kane the last few years has noticeably increased his off ice workouts. Little guy is pretty stacked these days. I don't see why he cant have that kind of production into his mid to late 30s.
Not Martin St. Louis stacked but close. |
