Kane routinely gets better, and can make average players very good. You build around him. He will go down as the greatest American player ever.....and if he wants probably ends up as the Hawks all time leading scorer. Yes he has value, but he's untouchable in my book. I wouldn't deal him for many, if any, players.
2 will fetch a kings ransom. He's got a team friendly cap hit, and could put an eastern conference team over the edge. 15 also would have value as a depth center and if that big goof Hanzal can net a decent return at last year's deadline, so should 15.
From there...maybe somebody takes a flyer on 10 or 38 or Wingels or Bouma but the Hawks have to be listening to any and all offers. Dumping Panik for DuClair was a nice start, but we need more......and we need to restock picks and prospects and you need to give to get. - SteveRain
If Stan trades Keith, what is the plan to replace him?

Yes. I'm hesitant to trade 2 but it would signal a true rebuild. He should, in theory, get you at minimum a 1st rounder and highly rated prospect...if not more. |

That is so not true to my eyes/ears. Maybe not by naming individuals, but after the losses to St. Louis and again to Nashville, that is exactly who he put all the blame on. - pdx2ord
He damns through faint praise or cliche. Not great leadership techniques, but they have their place. |

That's the entire problem. The infatuation with a nearly 90 year old in Scotty Bowman has to stop. If Scotty Bowman wasn't his father, there is a snowballs chance in hell Stan would be an NHL GM. Whatever great scouting and expertise that Scotty and Stan have, it's led the Hawks to the basement of the Central Division, and in a hurry. New leadership and direction is needed. Bowman and Q have too much history, allegiance and bias towards the Core to make the tough decisions needed to turn around this train that is running off the rails. - EnzoD
While I agree that there's too much bias and too much loyalty towards the core. I'm not sure I agree that they've solely led us off the rails.
The Salary Cap, and premature decline of Toews have been hamstringing events. Let's not forget that after the 2015 Cup Toews was still considered an absolute top player in the league. I had to argue with one of my idiot friends why Toews wasn't better than Crosby.
In a 2+ year span we've seen Toews become a second line/Jordan Staal type player.
As a GM you can't predict this happening. Yes you can guarantee a drop off for almost every forward after the age of 29, but not this precipitous decline. We could have two great wingers for the $10.5M Toews eats, or two strong Centers.
I agree that the Bowmans are culpable for this mess, but no one saw the Toews disaster coming. |

Agree with all of this. But Seabrook is as much of an issue if not more. Toews, while not producing as he should, is still used in all situations. Seabrook could be replaced by a $1mil 6D right now. Those two are the biggest reasons for the situation the Hawks find themselves in today. |

I like this...who knows if it will make a difference but it's work a shot. Hopefully, Q moves up DeBrincat with Toews and Duclair. - DarthKane
That would be a small line. If the team is at all worried about the abuse Toews takes, then putting him with two short players is not a recipe for success.
I'd love to see Anisimov on that line, purely because he can play left wing and goes for the dirty points. |

The unique disaster here is that Toews is the captain - the on ice leader, who has now made a season of underachieving, avoiding tough play, taking horrible penalties, and whining to the refs game in and game out.
That behavior has its own consequences up and down the roster. This is manageable by the coaching staff. Not seeing much evidence of that going on, as the behavior continues. |

Patrick Kane said there was a "healthy discussion" and some "new ideas" about how to approach the power play. Should be interesting to watch tomorrow.
Maybe it didn't include Keith and Toews and they thus opted out of practice today? |

ADB has no role on this roster. Sorry - too small. Absolutely ineffective against any team with size or sandpaper. He may be a sniper, but he is death for zone possession.
Trade chip at best. I say cut the losses. He's done nothing in weeks.

My God fellas,
How bout before you dismantle the team, you do what any sane person would do, that is change the coach. There is no more efficient way to accomplish your goal.
Q has clearly lost the team. He is a played out record....or MP3 play list for you younger guys.
Hey, if he overplayed guys and shortened their careers for Cups...no regrets, that is why you play. Thank you coaches and players for that.
As to what you see now, nothing needs to be said or spoken, it is all plane as day.
Time for a change, unless the goal is a race to the bottom. |

I think we need to get away from the mind-set that the line needs to have size to be effective. Look at Tampa, they have a line of Kucherov-Point-Johnson and Kucherov is the tallest at 5'11". Their third line is Killorn-Peca-Gourd - the last 2 guys are 5'9" or under. |

If ADB played like Theo Fleury, OK. But he is not even 5'9". Dude gets rubbed off of EVERY puck ALL the time.

Race to the bottom, then change him out. No sense in messin up a good draft pick by winning some games. |

As much as I wish you were wrong, you're probably right. And no GM goes down with the ship before axing the coach.
I have a hard time justifying firing one of the top two coaches in the NHL and Chicago history. Maybe he bought himself an extra season with each Cup, and after this it will be 3 losing seasons. Without Q I fear that the attitudes on this team will have no 'bad cop' ultimate figure to squash them down.
All of that said, I think you're right. No coach lasts forever. I'm just sad that the day is coming soon and it will be the end of an era.

Will a new coach make Toews perform like a 1C again?
Will a new coach make Seabrook a Top Pair Dman again?
Will a new coach make the AHL caliber defense NHL caliber?

How about recognizing that he's just 20 years old, first year pro experience (maybe he should be in Rockfish after all), has excellent ice vision, hands....potential.
Most of the forwards have done nothing in weeks.
Giving up on his upside now doesn't make much sense. |
