There's no way the Flyers can make a prospect only deal. They'd need to have the cap room for Karlsson, which is probably going to be close to 10 mil as season. I think they would have to send Simmonds the other way. No way could they afford to resign him moving forward.

It's a different world now. Look back at what Dougie Hamilton got moved for.

Ottawa might not want any money back -- that's their problem. Cash-flow concerns, Phaneuf wouldn't waive to go to Vegas

True. But yeah, if we got Karlsson they'd have to find a way to clear some serious coin off the cap.

Not sure I would make a move for Karlsson as I dont know it fits with what the Flyers are trying to do.

My hope is that as they get closer to that final target they use some of the d and-or goaltending prospects to add to the offense.

agree to this.

i doubt simmonds would want to resign there either. perhaps ottawa could turn around and deal him as well for more futures.

id still want a young guy of higher importance included if im the sens.

Plus Provorov will be getting 8 years and big bucks starting in 19-20.

When do you think that is coming, the final target season? 19? 20?

Serious question -- not arguing. What do you think you need to see to know?

I ask because i am legitimately curious, because a few years back, this was kinda supposed to be the year they looked serious about this thing

I dont know that I agree that this year was supposed to be be the year they looked serious.. Just based on the number of young players not up yet.

I see next year and the year after as being when they really think its time.

So the main reason I want Sanheim to play is so when I buy NHL 19, he will have a starting rating of at least 80.

Always a good reason. At least Elliott should hopefully have a good rating next year.

I kind of think it depends on how Patrick grows. They need another true warhorse behind G.

Also think it depends on Hart/Sandstrom.

Saw your response earlier btw, hope all is well.

Ok. This is Hextall's fourth full season, and I think his tenure has been interesting. Great job cleaning out some bad contracts, good drafting overall. Iffy Free Agents. Trades are good and bad, depending on perspective.

Currently in a playoff spot, playing reasonably well. Next year could be better, if you think Giroux keeps rolling.

i think that would be a huge mistake. not only do they typically develop slower, but you can go out and get someone decent at a reasonable cost at almost any time.

My personal opinion is we wouldn't get Karlsson without giving up one of Sanheim, Ghost or Patrick (I dont consider Provy available for anyone realistic). That might be too much in some eyes, but that's what he's worth. You are going to get karlsson for at least 4 really good seasons.

I don't want to trade for him by the way.

Keys to becoming a contender are:

Goaltending- Elliott and Neuvirth are playing well but I don't think either will take you to a Cup so it will likely have to be Hart

Defense: just need to get Manning and one of AMac/Gudas out and Sanheim and one of Morin/Myers in. It's coming

Forwards: Patrick will be fine but they'll need a 3rd C to join him and Coots. My money is on Frost. Lindblom will solidify the wing next year.

I think they are a solid team now and will be the same next year, but they aren't contending before 19-20 at the earliest.

Eagles are one of the biggest teams in the NFL, they just wear teams down as the game goes on

Agree with everything on this post..
Im really excited about next season and maybe just as excited to see how this season keeps playing out.

The Flyers record since the 10 game winless streak has been insane.
