There was a site posted here a few days ago that showed that Nashville is actually the best-managed team in terms of the cap.

Agree and disagree.

they are well managed to compete every year.

they also just got their first legitimate banner in team history, they are mired in above average mediocrity. being the best team at managing the cup in playoff wins doesnt mean jack if you never win a cup. then who cares?

most teams ebb and flow to take their haymakers when the opportunity is there and reload when it downturns. Nashville has had financial problems since forever where they always had a model where they needed sustained success and playoff revenue for at least one round even if it didnt result in a cup, and they didnt finally start opening up payroll spending until a couple years ago. The Weber contract nearly crippled them and they only matched it so it wouldnt drive away the fanbase in losing their only two recognizable faces on the roster in their peak (weber and suter)

no its not...bolts...leafs...and then 4 str road games: wings, preds, nucks and flames...

they could be challenging the oil for the 13th spot in a week..

Bogie...considering how lousy this clubs looks, I think a lottery pick is an attainable goal and one the Hawks should pursue with all the passion they've shown us in the last couple home games.

He's been Mr. 0-fer on offense for quite a while now. And, the irony of his statement makes me

All good info. . .you obviously pay a lot more attention to this stuff than me (as well you should in your job).

Last thing I'd want is Kane on Nashville (probably last thing he would want, too).

this team finishes at best with 80-83 points...the schedule they got against playoff teams...no way they can any better than that

he increased his season output by 55% from 9 to 14...

kane had his 1st 5 point game ever vs the sens...

I hope you're wrong, but you're likely spot on.

50 pts. after 46 gms.

The Hawks would need to be absolutely dreadful the final 36 to end up at 75 pts. or fewer. Odds are they'll stumble into 30-35.

they had the lowest TOI of the defensemen with 13:40 and 14:09 respectively. they weren't just really bad, they were efficiently bad.

Well, another stinker tonight guys (is there a white flag emoji?)

I just tweeted: Mark it... it's Jan 20th and I just googled "top ranked players for NHL 2018 draft".

... and it's true, I'm looking at prospects over here.

The way this season has gone, the Hawks getting a pick in the top 10 pick would be the best thing for this organization for the future. Even if they squeaked into the playoffs, I find it hard to comprehend a big playoff run.

As of today, they would be selecting 10th overall.

Sportsnet has Jared McIsaac as their pick if that was the case:

10. Jared McIsaac, D, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL): Hard-nosed kid who has settled in after a slow start to the season. Has an acute ability to raise his level of play when the competition calls for it. He has a solid defensive foundation that puts him near the head of this D class.

But I'm a big fan of, Ty Smith (who they have 12th):

12. Ty Smith, D, 5-foot-11, 176 pounds (Spokane Chiefs, WHL): If the on-ice package isn’t enough, look no further than character for this smooth-skating defenceman who projects to someday wear a letter in the show.

It is a Defence heavy first-round that they are predicting and I think the Hawks, even with Jokiharju, Krys, Mitchell, etc... could use a stud Dman that could step in in the next 2-3 years.

If they don't opt for a D, Stan should really look at a C like Rasmus Kupari who might be within range for them.

I know there will be a lot of doom and gloom out there, but missing the playoffs and getting the highest pick since their 2007, 1st overall could really make a huge difference for this team in the years to come.

This pairing might disappear overnight.

Murphy should have been playing. Hell, he could be a future top 4 / shutdown D on this team if giving the time and mentorship from the coaching staff. He's already played a lot of hard minutes in ARI and learned a lot on the job.

I've really held off for a long time, but after that performance (as well as that DET stinker) and with all the "time's running out" talk by the players, yet their words don't match their on-ice play... #realtalk at this point.

Yeah, the legend of Keith seems to be overshadowing the reality of Keith the past year with the fans and with the media. I just don't see the Keith of legend unless the game is on the line and it's in the 3rd.

I'd change the coach right now if for no other reason than to see what you really have with each of the players before it comes time to make the tough trade decisions. Tell the new guy that's his objective. Bench whomever you need to, let us see what we really have with each individual. Make sure the players (especially the dog house denizens) know it's a clean slate. Allow the other teams to see (hopefully) the best each of the players has to offer.

As long as Q is there, some of the vets will phone it in some nights and you'll have head-scratching roster shuffling that doesn't allow the young guys to build confidence and that word I'm sooooo sick of hearing in these post-loss player interviews, "consistency."

I'd go with

Keith-Oesterle
Forsling-Murphy
Gustafson-Seabrook

Forsling had a bad night but he's a kid with talent that needs to play, just like Murphy. Rutta and Kempny are what they are, borderline 3rd pair guys on a good NHL team.

Given what this season is likely turning into, I'd go with that as well. Maybe bring up another young guy to rotate in and send Rutta and Kempny packing. But for next game, Forsling needs to sit.

I will stop watching. 88 is the only one worth a damn on the whole team. I'll become a Vegas fan. Trade Toews and Seabrook for a bag of pucks and 3/4 their cap hits in salary space. You could sign 2 UFAs this summer to do as much (probably more) than 7+19 are doing with that cap since.
- EnzoD

You know the other day I said to my son jokingly when we were in the middle of the last freeze, I’m getting to old for this cold weather maybe I’ll move to Vegas and become a Knights fan. If they trade Kaner there I’m gone.

Forsling and Rutta are absolutely atrocious. How can they play an entire hockey game as D-Men and NEVER touch an opposing player? They both are constantly out of position. Constantly! They both NEVER win a puck battle - hard to win one when you just stand alone on the ice. How do opposing players get alone behind them on the PK? Both are so light on their skates that they can be knocked over by a soft shot (Rutta) or can just fall down (Forsling). Neither of them has any idea how to play in the defensive zone not a clue. The Hawks have no chance to win playing these two or either of them. They both need to be sporting Ice-Hog crests. Only reason they are playing is Dirty-Ulf. That Murphy and Kempny sat out tonight is appalling. Dirty Ulf is an Idiot! Gustafson seemed light years ahead of Forsling and Rutta and he’s been buried at Rockford. Please send both of them to Rockford as they are both useless. While we are at it send Dirty Ulf packing too.
