15 nhl players in the past 10 years for TB. 7 for mtl.
if you take out top10 picks, I think it's 10-5.
so yeah, TB did draft a lot better. not even close. that's one reason they're #1 and Habs are playing for a lotery pick. - fidopro
How exactly are you defining an NHL player? Also why are you using the last 10 years when 2007 was a fantastic draft for them? Anyway quality of drafted players is far more important. I didn't talk about Emelin for example, because him and 3rd liners aren't really worth discussing. When I'm evaluating drafting I'm only looking at making good steals after the 20 picks or so are made, and I define that as either a top 6 forward or top 4 or at least someone with that potential. NHL player is far too vague a criteria for evaluating the scouts work. |

It's kinda sad when the highlight of the game is Bob Cole saying, "I always love seeing Richard here in the Bell Centre in Montreal..." |

I like round numbers. you want to count 2007 because it was a good year? so why not count 2006 which was an horrible year? or go back to 2003 where they picked AK46 instead of one the many future superstars still on the board.
at the end of the day it doesn't change the facts. TB drafted twice as many NHL players over the years.
and by NHL players I mean obviously players who are currently playing in the NHL. so not counting Tinordi, but counting DLR, even though he's a plug.

I explicitly mentioned I went back as far as 2003 which was when Timmins was first hired. Going back only 10 years limits the sample size significantly, especially since the jury is still out on some recent picks like Juulsen and Poehling. It's not unreasonable to assume there is substantial variance in drafting. Anyway, if you prefer quanity over quality as a measure, than that's fine, but the way I see it drafting 3rd or 4th liners or bottom pairing dmen has little to no value because they 're so easy to sign/trade for. |
