If this is any good, I would say Adam Boqvist (D), Noah Dobson (D) or Rasmus Kupari (C). Then again, we don't know where mtl will draft yet and if they will draft the best player available or if they will go on needs as well. There's a few wingers out there as well.

Interesting. To me it makes the most sense to draft by need in this spot (certainly C or D), unless they truly believe one of the wingers is head and shoulders above the remaining C and D.

I expect Patches, Pleks, and likely 2 D and maybe even Niemi to be gone, if not more. And again more traded before the draft. Will be interesting to see what those returns are, and perhaps then, can make a better guess on the draft direction.

If they manage to trade Shaw (I'm assuming you mean Andrew) without retaining salary, I'll take back everythi...well, a couple of things...I've said bad about Bergy.

I have 0 doubt they could trade Shaw without retaining any salary.

Well, it was meant to represent the stupidity of that trade, but if I go into it again I'm just going to put myself into a bad mood. Anyway who knows, if they were able to flip Lars (frank)ing Eller for 2 2nds right before they made the stupid trade to cancel it, maybe they can get someone like Chiarelli to bite.

those trades were linked. if MB doesn't find a buyer for Eller, he doesn't trade for Shaw.
same cap size, same price (2 2nd)
a bit like a 3way trade

I don't think Shaw' contract is that bad, considering the cap will raise. his health issues are more concerning imo

Don't be surprised if Bergevin keeps Patches and give him 7 millions a year if not more.

I think it's safe to say Weber and Mete will be the top pair for next year. unless they win the lotery and grab Dahlin of course.
and probably Alzner and Petry as the 2nd pair, as they won't be easy to trade.
Benn and Schlemko could be moved imo, making room for Juulsen.

Marc Bergevin made them linked because he's a royal (frank)ing fool who has a fetish for 3rd line energy players. There was literally no link in the trades whatsoever in terms of pieces being moved around (Montreal's early 2nds went to Chicago for Shaw and they acquired Washington's next year 2nds for Eller). Once Eller was shipped out, they should have thrown a (frank)ing party and replaced him from within with their master collection of 3rd liners. I'm not saying Shaw is trash, but spending precious assets to get a 3rd liner they could easily get via free agency and then signing him to a very healthy contract blows my mind.

oh absolutely.
that being said, with Timmins track record over the past years, we can't really blame MB for trading 2 picks for a proven NHL player.
he'll ship him out for less then what he paid for, and we'll all live happily.

there is no way we will ever see a rebuild under bergefail.
