oh absolutely.
that being said, with Timmins track record over the past years, we can't really blame MB for trading 2 picks for a proven NHL player.
he'll ship him out for less then what he paid for, and we'll all live happily. - fidopro
Many people keep repeating this, but I've seen so no convincing argument whatsoever that Timmins is a bad scout. Given that many posters seem to think Tampa Bay's scouting is better, I did a very quick eyeball comparison between the teams and nothing seems to suggest they've done better than Montreal since 2003 (which is when Timmins was hired I believe). Omitting top 5 picks (because clearly a moron would look like a genius if he had a regular supply of those), Tampa Bay has drafted players like Kucherov 2nd round 2011, Palat 7th round 2011, and Vasilevsky 1rs round 2012. Palat was clearly a fluke, or they would have drafted him several rounds earlier. Montreal drafted Halak 9th round 2003 (again obvious fluke), Ryan McDonagh 1rst round 2007, Pacioretty 1rst round 2007, Subban 2nd round 2007, Gallagher 5th round 2010, Hudon 5th round 2012, and Mete 4th round 2016. I'm sure there's noteworthy players I missed on Tampa's side because I don't know their team history nearly as well, but the point is is that there's no clear evidence that Tampa's drafting has been any better than Montreal. Now with GMs I'd argue it's a very different story. |

he is not the same netminder this year, lots of weak goals that didn't go in previously |

15 nhl players in the past 10 years for TB. 7 for mtl.
if you take out top10 picks, I think it's 10-5.
so yeah, TB did draft a lot better. not even close. that's one reason they're #1 and Habs are playing for a lotery pick. |

If Timmins drafted one good center in 14 years people would be off his muscular back |

Agreed. Same with detroit, people rave aboit their late picks, but if they knew the talent they'd have drafted them earlier |
