Good gawd.... Even with the game all but over with the Pens on the PP, Letang throws a horrible pass up the center of the ice almost leading to a Kings goal. I love Letang, but he played like he had a lobotomy tonight.

Great game for Desmith. Dude was smooth and cool.

From Pittsburgh Hockey Now....

There were several scouts in attendance for this contest. An interesting development is the following from Chicago. Scouts from the Blackhawks have been in attendance for at least 3 of the Penguins last four games.

Others to note are Ottawa, Toronto, and Dallas. Scouts from the Stars also attended last Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers.

Serious question. Do people still want to trade Horny? Guy seems to have found some scoring touch lately.

There's a few that don't, but a few that do. I can't see any advantage in trading after he knows the game of his team mates & vice versa. And we are going to need a team effort to get to the playoffs.

Great win. This one came on 11:30pm for me.. I was in and out of sleep watching it. All a little cloudy...could of been the weed gummie as well..

Anyway, was hoping for at least 3 points out of 6 on this tough West coast swing, that's 2 down.

For a line that doesn't have enough skill on the wings, Hags-Malkin-Hornqvist sure do score alot.

Haha the two best friend Swedes enjoy each other's company on a line. Hags is quietly putting up points now, hopefully it keeps going.

If my memory serves me, last season Geno had an assist in the majority of Hornys goals up until about the 12 goal mark - which changed later in the season. So there is history & that's without analytics!

No I was for it this offseason to free up cap for a 3C, but a) That cap won’t eeally be useful anymore since there’s no UFA to sign, and b) our wings have really underperformed so we need all the talent we can get. I still don’t want to resign him and give him his final pay day

Even though we can use all the points we can get, splitting that back to back was good outcome. Playing back to back after a big travel to the West Coast ain’t no joke.

I've been on Hags for a while now, but he's having a really nice run on that line. Zone entries might not be pretty, but there's something to be said for putting 3 guys together who win most of their puck battles.

It's funny, every stats guy seems to want every player to be good at certain things - things being statistically acceptable, but not everyone can have the puck at the same time, so why have 3 good possession players playing together. It makes sense to put hard & fast chasers with a good possession player. In saying that Hornys goals especially the 1st one, was pretty rare. But it was great to see him set himself up & have a crack.

Hahaha...Yeah they can actually be nuts if you over do it and whats crazy is as nuts as it seems to you at the time, its still so gentle on the system. You have to start small and see how it treats you. As the saying goes "you can always eat a bit more, but you can never eat less once its ate" haha. I find for me approx 25/30mgs is a very nice functional time. Can get poop done out in public (if need be) and not want to hide in a dark cave for hours haha.

Why?
- Aussiepenguin

I just think too much emphasis gets placed on zone exits in entries instead of overall possession.

Most of the forwards on the team are better then Hornqvist and Hagelin at entering the zone with possession. Yet they are better than most at winning puck battles so they end up having the pick more despite not entering and exiting as cleanly.

https://www.naturalstattr...=&td=&tgp=82&lines=single

So it wasn't an anti-advanced stat take, I just don't believe controlled entries always leads to better possession and wanted to talk a little about why that line has been so effective.

Exactly.

Its crazy to think that those two wingers were the 4th line wingers for the most part in the finals last season.
