Canadian Police Officers are Mounties. Canadian Rangers wear yellow shirts/green pants, put out forest fires and (frank) woodland creatures.

It is known.

I'm just kidding, but glad to know that woodland creatures get some love too.

Can you provide a prediction for Shatty and then also regardless of what it is, can you also predict what nyrangers9479 will say about him? ( the second one is a gimme)
- MiloslavHorava

I was going to post today he breaks his 27 game goalless drought but now I have to go the opposite and say he continues the streak to 28 games.

Since I'm such a generous guy and paid for an Athletic subscription the other day...here is Corey Pronman's mailbag questions that pertain to all those busts the Rangers have selected recently

@wwright88: There is a lot of debate about this amongst Rangers fans, but what do you think the ceiling is for Filip Chytil?

I think he could be a good second line center. I’m not convinced he has the dynamic capabilities or at least shows it consistently enough to be a true first center.

@Jordan__Rattray: Did Colin White’s injury hurt his ranking or Ottawa’s use of him? The talent is clearly there to be in the top 50.

I was much more aggressive this year in targeting guys with skill and upside. Guys like him, Luke Kunin with Minnesota, Ryan Poehling with Montreal, Lias Andersson with the Rangers, Mike McLeod with New Jersey and Brett Howden with Tampa got the short end of the stick in this philosophy. That doesn’t mean White or that group of guys lack skill, but I wouldn’t characterize them as the dynamic type of players around the puck; more well-rounded two-way players.

@LedgerSko: Interested in why you left Lias Andersson off the ranked 50. Where does he need to improve?

I’d like to see him be a little quicker, be more creative with the puck and impact the game in ways other than winning battles. I think he has skill and makes smart plays, but to be of real value to an NHL team, I’d like to see higher level ability in generating offense and creating clean zone entries.

I don’t get all the Marc Staal things. As a 3rd pair dman that can kill PK’s he’s fine. He’s never been an offensive dman and has 100% regressed since his concussions/eye injury. I don’t get what Marc Staal has to do with Shattenkirk not having a goal in 27 games though, at least he leads the team in something though at a -14.

Kevin Shattenkirk has almost 4 times the amount of points Staal does. If you think 5.7 million dollar cap hit can survive on the 3rd pair, you don't know how the salary cap works. Among other things.

Enjoy.

Since we are making absurd arguments using only the facts that fitsour naratives:

Marc Staal makes 5.7MM and has 7 points, his defense isn't that great.
He leads the team in worst Points/ dollar ratio for non goalies
at least he leads the team in something though

See how easy it is?

You might want to sit down for this.
I was an Oilers fan as a kid (took an interest in the NHL around 83-84) and Messier was my absolute favourite. I migrated to NY with him (no, not to Vancouver as well).
One of my better decisions!

I’m not trying to write 7 pages to explain things I’m trying to be brief but your one of those weasles that picks apart everything word for word.
Staal was good, very good before his injuries. He’s been better this year but he’s not the player he once was. He was NEVER a guy that we relied on to put up points but rather be a top pair shutdown defenseman and before his injuries he was. At this point in his career is he worth 5.7 million? No. Is he a top pair defenseman? No. Is he ideal on th 3rd pair making 5.7 million? No. But he is what he is at this point and can still play decent defense on the 3rd pair and kill penalties until he’s either bought out or he waives his NMC and hopefully someone takes him for a bag of pucks.

Shattenkirk has NEVER been good at defense but has made up for it by putting up 40+ points a year. But when he’s not contributing offensively he’s pretty useless. He was supposed to fix the PP and yet here we are in the bottom half of the league again. He’s terrible at playing defense but if he’s contributing offensively I guess you can justify his 6.65 million a year. But he’s going on 1/3 of the season now being terrible on defense AND not contributing offensively. DEFENSIVELY I would say he’s the worst on the team, he’s obviously the best offensively but we’re going 27 games now that he hasn’t been. When can you people start calling him out the same way you call everyone else out?

But Staal was never paid that 5.7 million to put up points. He was paid it to be a shutdown dman and injuries have derailed his career. He’s no longer a top pair dman, but can still play on the 3rd pair and kill penalties. I’m not saying Staal is the greatest defenseman but he’s not terrible. Get the overhead view of the Islanders 2nd goal and you tell me if that looks like a player that gives a damn/hustling/cares etc. He literally stops skating when he had plenty of time to catch the shooter and either lay a nice open ice check or get his stick on the puck. He then has the nerve to say his skating allows him to make up for his mistakes on the ice when everyone at intermission called him out for giving up on the play. But your right, he’s the guy I want making 6.65 million, he clearly gives it his all.

Chiefs, ur an Isles fan, get that overhead of the 2nd goal so everyone can see what a hard worker Shattenkirk is.
