Really glad for the E Train..I think JMatch said it best on the first page ..It would take 5 pages to talk about what he meant to me , form a Flyers fan in the 90s.

On to Sanheim..Man he is getting killer experience right now.. Sitting for 6 in 7 games...Young kid learning a lot..

or not.

Also, haven't listened to WIP.

However, seeing as the Flyers are the only team playing tonight (maybe the Sixers, too), and are retiring the number of one of the best players in the city's sports history, I would assume all they're talking about is Lindros and the Flyers today.

Right?

They really do deserve to have continued mediocrity shoved up their ass.

Kid played scared in his 7 minutes last game and made a mistake.

Maybe, but also, there wouldn't have been three people water skiing from his limbs as he tried to skate. He couldn't have been interfered with and would have been able to keep his momentum going. No slashes on the hands so he could have used his skill more. As I said before as well. He probably wouldn't have been hurt as much.

True but the kid neve learned to pick his head up. He never needed to until the NHL.

I'm getting there as though there are warmups at 6:25, because if someone took my souvenir (I think those are shirts) off my seat I'd go on a rampage. So I'll pre-empt that by being there early.

Is that the Art Ross and Lady Byng hologram from the UD Czech set, or the regular 91/92 Upper Deck hologram? Is it sad that I'm fairly certain I know what you're talking about? My dad and I were pretty hardcore into collecting (I have every non-insert card of Gretzky and Lemieux ever made, including multiple OPC RCs of both), but most of it has more nostalgic value that monetary value.

By the way, In The Game put out a set a few years back called Broad Street Boys, it's an all-Flyers product. The most sought-after card, you ask? The super short-printed Braydon Coburn auto.

- jmatchett383

Sadly, I believe it's the regular 91/92 insert. There's no number or anything on it...it's when I really started collecting and I jumped off the deep end with Lindros cards shortly thereafter! You're definitely right about the nostalgia part. One of these days I'll need to go through my complete sets and take out the good players and trash the rest.

Coburn the most sought after? LOL! That's too funny!

My wife bought lower level seats for this one, so if my souvenir shirt is missing, sh#t is going to hit the fan at Wells Fargo tonight!

Lindros I had season tickets from 82 thru 2000 so I was lucky to see Eric live a lot. I remember reading about Eric when he was 16 and wanting him SO bad on the Flyers. Actually getting him was like a dream come true. watching him play was amazing even tho they never won the cup. I remember one game early in his career he left the ice hurt and the hush was unreal. could have heard a pin drop. then he came back to play and the standing ovation was amazing.

Its such a shame targeting the head was allowed back then (and yes Eric made some brutally nasty hits as well). I will forever despise Stevens and Kasparitis and the pens of that era for laughing on the bench while Eric laid on the ice hurt.

I am so happy the two sides made amends and he is part of the Flyers again. its where he belongs. I can't wait to be there tonight!

You know better than that...it'll be EAGLES all day/night on WIP and the Fanatic. Missanelli will probably find a way to shoehorn the Sixers into the conversation too.

It would take me a few pages to accurately portray just what Lindros has meant to me as a Flyer fan. When I was 10, I was a Phillies fan, and no other sport mattered. I mean, I played street hockey, tossed a football around, and shot hoops, but I never cared for the other Philly teams, Then I heard that the Flyers, that lousy hockey club, traded for some "Lindros" guy. Opening night 1992, my parents turned on the game and I sat down to watch. I instantly became a huge hockey fan, and Lindros was by far my favorite player.

No other player could dominate a game with the variety of ways he could. When he wanted to, it seemed like he could will himself to a goal, and when he was riled up, every player knew to keep their head on a swivel, not that it would help. He was a better playmaker than a finisher, but had probably the best snap shot I've ever seen, and his release was amazingly quick. He could literally take over a game single-handedly, something that I've only ever seen equalled by Mario Lemieux.

Then the feud happened, then 2000 Game 7, and even as a 16-year-old, my world felt absolutely crushed in 2000. I never shed a tear over it, but it felt like part of me died the day he was traded. I understood the reasons for the trade, but I still hated it. It didn't matter where he was traded to, just knowing that he was done as a Flyer felt like part of me was missing.

Fast forward to the 2012 alumni game, the first time he would step onto the ice in a Flyers jersey in 12 years. No way would I have ever missed that. When his name was announced, I almost cried knowing that he was back with the organization as a proud alumni member. And when he made that pass to LeClair for the first goal just like it was 1995 again, I absolutely cried in joy as I celebrated, only the 2nd time I've ever cried at a game (2010 ECF Game 5). Seeing the LOD reunited in Toronto 2 Novembers ago, and seeing him score the shootout winner at the game was the highlight of my trip.

Now that I've bored you all to tears, I just want to say that he is my all-time favorite player, and nothing in this world keep me from seeing him have his number immortalized by my favorite team of all time. This may mark time #3 that I cry at a game.

The 90/91 OPC Premier Jagr, Roenick, and Mogilny cards were going for about $40-$50, and the Upper Deck French rookies Fedorov and Bure were $25-$40 back in the early 90s. Now you can have them for $2-$3, if that much. There are very, VERY few cards from 90/91-99/00 that have any real value. No doubt the Lindros Score rookie dropped like crazy, but it's still an iconic card in hockey card history, and while it's no longer a $30 card, I still am the proud owner of both versions.

- jmatchett383

I was in the trading card business at the time. a box of Score cost 60.00 initially when they came out. Lucky for me i unloaded the case I bought before we all found out just how many cards were produced. i made money but a lot of people lost good money.

I wasn't lucky enough to be a STH, but I got to see him as much as possible. Big E was everything I wished I could be as a hockey player. I did all I could to emulate how I played after him (even though I was nowhere near close to being 6'5") and it broke my heart when he was going through all the concussions. Those pieces of trash like Stevens and Kasper should have been thrown out for the head targeting, but I guess it was like you said, a different time. So happy he's getting his number retired by the Orange and Black and I'm psyched to see it happen in person

Had season tix for 14 years, but the travel from Lehigh Valley to so many games was difficult. Watching 88 steamroll the opposition made it worthwhile! Wish the man could have learned how to keep his head up. He was a monster. Happy the fences have been mended and he’s part of the family again! Both thumbs up for “88”!!!

Two side items. One, can someone explain the pigeon reference the Giroux was calling out to VanRiemsdyk? Feel ignorant I haven’t a clue.

Second, does anyone else miss those passionate fights like the one posted between Behn Wilson and Wendel Clark? Not anything staged, or cheap shots, but two guys defending themselves or a teammate. Too much ice capades and cheap shots without retribution. Get rid of the instigator rules!!!

I had no idea we were getting anything for this game.

Hopefully, whoever is standing near my seats for the warmups before I get there are good citizens and don't steal my souvenir.

I've been told a pigeon is someone who doesn't score important goals.

Like, they score the 5th goal for a team, when their team was already up 4 - 1.

I just remember the players on the Pens bench laughing. I was furious. cheer big hits for sure. But I never think a player hurt is funny, even a player I despise
