What a horrible trade for the Habs.

titegraine, Brown and a 1st.

Flip Bozak and Komarov at the TD for picks, should be able to get a few 2nd round picks

If it makes you feel better, imagine the haul of picks/players the Habs could have gotten for selling Subban right now instead of trading him for Weber straight up.

True, but there are quite a few who could, and would be willing to give up a haul to get him.

Vegas, for example.

Maybe Patch. But no chance the other two get dealt.

which is great. because if there's one thing this team should do moving forward, it's moving their best offensive player and keeping the rest of the core generally intact.

I'm not sure we can.

Boston traded asssets for picks and ended up drafting 3 young guys that not only helped out early, but became core pieces of the team (Carlo, McAvoy and to a lesser extent Debrusk). They also whiffed on 2 first rounders that could have turned into Barzal, Boeser or Connor so it's far from a guarantee.

And while they did that, they still had guys like Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak in the lineup... The kind of players we simply do not have at the moment (Pacioretty, Galchenyuk and drouin would be our closest comparables and well... they don't really match up that well).

- Scabeh

21 teams in the league whiffed on Patrnak as well

You pretty much have to tear this thing apart and start over, no?

Problem is that you probably don't want Bergevin being the guy selling these players off.

They'll consider this season as an "abnormality", blaming it on the injury bug and lack of puck luck.

A big serving of status quo, coming up.

How about do you want to become a General Manager of an NHL team for the first time?

Pretty hard to say no to that. Never know when you'll get another opportunity.

True... And perhaps the GM in Montreal also has a higher salary than other GMs in the league (to compensate for all that poop)

Can you believe that you can make a serious case that the best GM the Habs have had since 1995 is Bob (frank)ing Gainey?

No. The Gomez trade gives him that title by default.
