One NHL scout to me tonight: "Man the vultures are swirling over Bergy (Marc Bergevin) with trade offers." #GoHabsGo

Habs could easily finish in 29th position....with decent odds for the lottery

That's the best case scenario for this year, top 3 pick (a defenseman), try to trade other picks to get another first to draft a center

- Symba.007

They can lose, but not the way they did last night, please.

With a top 3 pick I'd be happy with Tkachuk or Zadina, even though they're wingers. Every year Mtl drafts based on their needs instead of drafting the best player and look where it got them...

Je suis du meme avis que Brunet... pull a Boston, get the picks, retool within a season.

I'm not sure we can.

Boston traded asssets for picks and ended up drafting 3 young guys that not only helped out early, but became core pieces of the team (Carlo, McAvoy and to a lesser extent Debrusk). They also whiffed on 2 first rounders that could have turned into Barzal, Boeser or Connor so it's far from a guarantee.

And while they did that, they still had guys like Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak in the lineup... The kind of players we simply do not have at the moment (Pacioretty, Galchenyuk and drouin would be our closest comparables and well... they don't really match up that well).

there is no leadership on this team, it starts with the SAME group of someone who is attracted to the opposite sexs, time to change the core, move the key players. No quick rebuild around the same spineless morons.

A fire sale seems inevitable and, ultimately the way to go, but I don't think it's reasonable or fair to expect the team to be any good for a couple years.

Trading Pacioretty sounds inevitable at this point... if anything because ever since he became captain, this team has been completely lost whenever things go badly.

They're gonna need more than a season to retool. Boston also got lucky with Pastrnak with a 25th pick and Carlo in the 2nd round. Habs just have nothing in the cupboards...absolutely (frank)ing nothing.

Things can turn around pretty quickly with a few solid draft picks.

The game is all about young players coming in early and having an impact these days.

ideally yes. but there are 2 main issues with this approach in Montreal:

1. who are Montreal's Bergeron-Krejci? because Boston already had a solid 1-2 punch down the middle when they retooled. Montreal does not have a legit top-6 center on the roster.

2. this assumes that Montreal (specifically Bergevin) is clever and creative enough to inject this team with young talent quickly. he's proven completely incapable of doing so over 6 years. why would that suddenly change now?

Some call it luck.... at the end of the day they were good picks.

I give them credit for making the right call.

Also because he's probably the guy the Habs can afford to trade with the most value.

Sure, but it's still an inexact science. Can't predict that a 25th overall pick will land you 70 pts seasons...
