Depending on the stats you look at and how you read into them - he has been top 5 in the league...
- fattybeef

Hmm if you're going by that then to me that's misleading, he's not very good without the puck and I do recall Q making him watch from the press box more than once.

True..... but this team needs net front presence on the PP and I'd like to see Hayden park that big frame in front of the net. Any kind of an upgrade on the PP would be welcome.......... however I'm betting that Q sticks with his usual cast of non performers that have been on that 1st unit for years. The PP is KEY to any success that this team might accomplish for the remainder of the season. Just think of what 1 Power Play goal a game could do for this team !!
- Hawkytalk

For anyone who is interested, here are some stats for the Hawks PowerPlay. Goals For per 60 minutes of icetime and their average icetime on the PP per game. Some guys it is a small sample size, but in some cases paints a picture of how much they help they help the PP.

I personally think the biggest issue has been creativity from the point and inability to get the PK players moving out of position. I like having AA/Toews etc down low looking for a pass because it forces the PK players to shift out of position and opens up some ice. Otherwise, I think the point players need to do more than try to force shots through, they could get a bit more mobile to force something.

I really like when they have gotten Schmaltz open in the slot, because he has been good from that area. Man, I wish fixing the PP was easy, because they could use it.

Agree with both points you bring up as hindrances to an effective PP. Lack of creative point shots and general PP strategy have led to predictability which makes it easy to defend and telegraph shots.

Plus a corollary of getting PK players to get out of position is what Olcyzk preaches all the time: "move the puck, move yourself." Player movement by the PP units will get the other team moving which should lead to gaps and lanes where the eventual shot can come from. Get the goalie moving and looking opposite of where the shot is coming is even better.

Totally agree. Maybe the CORE will have to play intense hockey for 60 minutes now versus saving themselves for the playoffs. Let's see what they got.

NO more goalie wins !! The top dogs have to kick it into gear immediately and Q has to play the right people in all situations. If that means Keith and Toews off the 1st PP unit, so be it. Same for the PK.

The Goalie wins can not be counted on any longer boys. They should all be well rested for maximum effort every shift.

- Hawkytalk

Keep Keith off the PP, Toews on 2nd unit. Keep Seabs off PP and PK maybe 2nd shift on PK.

It's certainly well past time to give both Rutta and Forsling the point on the PP

Nice to hear, maybe they have something developing in this Dahlstrom kid
- RickJ

thought the same when I heard this but about both players. It seem's as if
Rockford finally has a coach that can develop players and players that can
be coached, maybe the future is brighter than we think.

Speaking of Hayden....... wouldn't we rather have Hayden in the lineup versus Bouma ? I know Bouma has done his job on that 4th line all year but since the acquisition of Duclair, there's one less spot. I think Hayden brings more offense than Bouma and we definitely need to score more.
- Hawkytalk

I totally agree with Hayden over Bouma, when AA comes back having Kampf in
between 40-57 seem's to me like a pretty good 4th line.

Damn, Wingels-Kampf-Hayden is a great 4th line. They could actually do more than just be an energy line.

Truth be told , Bowman is a crappy GM and the reason for all these crap contracts ....Dont believe it ???? ... Your problem ... Dont expect any good vibes from him anymore ....sucks

Bowman could of traded a few core players right after the 3rd cup we won when there value was high and we would of been most likely still a strong contender still , but now the core has played so bad that there value has dropped and now where stuck with them ... Everybody knows
this is how it always works , even my grandma .... Bowman should know it too when you give these big contacts out , the lazy meter goes up up up ...

What larger role do you think he played? He never even played 10 minutes in any playoff game for Chicago. He had a goal in four playoff games and any time he was on the ice his line was not able to push possession despite starting in the O-zone almost 60% of the time. Just stop. Weise is not a comparable with Vermette because Weise was just a horrible player for Chicago.
- Hawks_49

Give it up on Weise. The guy has scored more than 16 points in a season twice in his 7+ year career and has 6 points in 34 games this year. Philly is regretting giving him a 3 year contract at $2.35 mil per year.

Danault is a nice player. He played two years in Rockford and never scored more than 38 points. Maybe he will be better in the future. Right now he is a 40 to 50 point a year player IF he is playing on the 1st or 2nd line. If he was rightly slotted he would be a 2C/3C (probably 3C on a good team) and scoring less. If he were still on the Hawks would he play in front of Toews, AA? No. He would be competing with Kampf and Schmaltz for playing time as C on the 3rd line. People act like we traded away Wayne Gretzky.

We need Blackhawks hockey back ASAP so we can stop rehashing old trades, speculating on injuries and complaining about Stan's continued incompetence.
- DarthKane

AMEN to that (although rehashing old trades, speculating on injuries and complaining about Stan's and Q's continued incompetence is what we do when the Blackhawks are playing hockey too).

Justin and trade chatter how what the hawks direction the hawks looking at seeing the TDL is getting closer? Now that Crawford may not be coming back to the hawks become sellers or continue try and make the playoffs? What would you do?
- Scott1977

Hey Scott - I'm hearing that they are looking for a D and willing to move a forward for one.

One source said: "Stan apparently has a plan for this year, and more importantly, for beyond. This means he doesn't want to move a draft pick or key prospect unless the returning player fits into future plans."

You trade away the core, and there goes the window. Everyone acts like there is a whole bunch of Toews', Kane's, and Keith's around, but there isn't, they are special, unique talents, and you get rid of any of them, you would win jack poop!

Also, they were paid for past performance, if the Hawks didn't , someone would have...

I don't like criticizing GM's over any singular trades. Trades are gambles, some pan out and some don't. I think you have to look at the overall body of work, and in my opinion, Bowman has done a great job of keeping this team competitive, or at least acquiring the right type of players to keep the team competitive. Even this year, I think he did a great job of retooling the roster. It is the inconsistency of this team that has them where they are now. One game, they look like they could beat any team, the next, they look like bottom feeders. And I think a lot of that is on the coaches. They should be able to motivate the players game in, game out, but it just doesn't seem like they are doing their job effectively. I could understand one or 2 players not being motivate for any one game or a stretch of games, but it appears the whole team, at times, is just completely unmotivated.

This was the last blog. Forgot who it was but had said something related to the fact that his friend was was very close to several of the players. And that is how found out. People were roasting him, well turns out he was was right to a certain degree

It was me that leaked the information and I stand by that 100%. I could give a crap about confidentiality, I highly doubt the Hawks or anyone else is going to care about me leaking it to an obscure message board. Plus, as you've seen, the information has already started to come out about it in the media with articles by Lazerus, etc.

The vertigo symptoms were a cover for the snowmobile accident over the Christmas break, because the team didn't want that getting out that Corey suffered another injury off the ice like the Rise Against concert injury a few years back.

Interesting. Would they take a young guy and have Samuelson teach? Or someone just a tad more experience?

But how many guys are out there that all are checkmark next to his name? Size, skating, can make decisions immediately when confronted with forecheck but maybe doesn't offer much in puck carrying. You decide what they might want but maybe there isn't a boatload of players Bowman targets, more like only a couple or a few at most.

Scotty Bowman was on a lengthy interview yesterday on Sportsnet AM 590 - Prime Time Sports. If you can access, it is still available to listen to. He said specifically that it isn't vertigo as being reported, Cro has post concussion syndrome. He also spoke about him and Zdeno Chara having a conversation about his friend Marion Hossa. FWIW.
