Does the NHL really need a musical act at the all-star game? It just seems out of place and like they're just following the NFL formula.

The ASG doesn't even need to exist any more, in any sport. It's just pointless.

The Backstreet Boys still sell out shows.
- BINGO!

So are they still not relevant then? I mean Garth Brooks packs stadiums, but hasn't had a new hit in forever...is he irrelevant too?

I dunno man, they pack the rink every time and the weekend probably brings the league a ton of money.

It's Sheryl Crow, not Cheryl... I expect more from an English major and self proclaimed music expert.

As usual, James Tanner displays his lack of knowledge of how businesses actually work.

The all-star game is not for hockey fans. It is for corporate sponsors - white, middle-aged lame-asses who will watch the musical act more than the actual game.

Kid Rock is the perfect guy for the ASG.

Garth Brooks is a different level though.

Brooks had 9 #1 singles, and 19 #1 hits in the country charts.

Kid Rock has 1 #1 hit (2007) and only 1 #1 on the country charts.

And he may also want to correct the opening line of the blog, where he states the Leafs-Capitals game is next year.

I went to the 2008 All Star game and the acts were NeYo and the Jonus Brothers. So yes, I firmly agree the NHL has no clue when it comes to music

btw-South Park's episode where they're making fun of the Jonus Bros is hilarious!

Sure, the outdoor games are a bad idea, but so is playing NFL games in Toronto and London, or playing NBA games in wherever they played overseas this year. But they make the leagues money and get people going to games who wouldn't normally go to the games. They're not going to stop anytime soon.

Taste in music is certainly subjective but lets take into consideration that Tanner thinks that R.E.M. is the best band in history.
