Actually, proper curling equipment calls for one foot to have a slippery covering over the sole, so you can slide along and keep up with the rock. 'Cause you know, you have to make it MORE dangerous on the ice! - Tonybere
Mother(frank)ing death traps. I watch pro curling all the time, hoping one day that one of them will face plant into a rock and give me some solace. |

Makes sense. Picturing the Curler(?) sliding on one knee with the outstretched leg. |

Bronze medal!!! They beat Russia (always nice to do, at any level) 5-1 in that game. The US took it to Sweden 9-3 for the gold. We had absolutely no media coverage of the tournament. Poor girls. For some it might be the hi-light of their lives and nobody gave a poop!
I'll be seeing them on Friday night. Thanks for asking!! - Tonybere

we win and people still whining about Buch even though he played on the 1st line.. - mdw7413
I'm "whining" about the way AV deploys this team. There's all sorts of lineup issues but that's the most mind-boggling to me, taking 1 of your top point producers and "punishing" him for a bit of a bad stretch. |

It wasn't directed at you per se. Just in general. Everyday there seems to be 50 posts about Buch. He got benched for a game. Thats it. He got moved up and down the lineup because he was struggling but got kept on the 1st PP unit. The reaction seems so overblown to what actually happened. Most of his points were in the 1st 2 months and on the PP. AV kept him on the PP.
He's back on the 1st hopefully he builds off of last night and stays there. |

That would be great, and I hope he stays on the 1st line. I would like him to shoot a bit more. Seems like everyone on this team wants to be a set up guy. Zuke, Hayes, Miller.... |

True and agree. I guess being a rangers fan has left me a little sensitive about making sure top talent isn't stifled or traded. |

No, I don't. Loving Buch. Kovalev was one of my favourite players in the 90's, too.
I have no problem with (some) Russian players. Just have an inbred hatred toward the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, or whatever they call it. Google 1972 Summit Series for an explanation of why. Kinda like when Vin stated on here over the holidays that he hates Hockey Canada. I get it. Basically every Canadian kid around my age was brought up with that event as a pivotal point of cultural identity. Not sure what our country would be like today if we had lost that series. Kinda sad, but that's truth.
Actually, if you've never seen those games, make an effort to find them. It's like a completely different game. Those guys were tough to the point of being retarded!
***I'd like to point out that I know I shouldn't use that word, but I don't know what else would emphasize my point to the proper degree! |

I got ya. I would love nothing more for Buch to play like he did in October and November, easily the Rangers best forward. |

So it’s ok for Buch to get moved up and down the lineup and benched for struggling a bit but we can’t bench Shattenkirk for his 27 game 0 goal 6 assist subpar defense? |

I think it depends how you look at it honestly. With young players, they are impressionable and you want to make sure they are staying on the right path as far as work ethic and they way they game should be played. To that end, you can use playing time as a motivating tool.
With veterans, on the other hand, I am not sure that benching Shattenkirk really serves much of a purpose. Maybe it does. I guess it just depends on the players personality as to whether something like that will motivate them. But, in the end, do we have 6 defenders better than him? If the answer is no, punishing him just because you are pissed that he isn't living up to the contract doesn't serve that much of a purpose.
All of this in short, a benching or demotion has to have some type of purpose, and the purpose may be different depending on the player. That's what the coaches get paid the big bucks to figure out.

If you can show me where I said they cant bench Shatty that would be great.
And seeing as there are 12 forwards and only 6 defenseman and Shatty is better than 3 of them it probably wouldn't be smart.
