That was a world-class ass kicking last night.

Review the evidence.
Move on.

If this team is going to do anything this year Patrick has to start doing something. It’s nice that he’s in position l many times but he’s just not cutting it out there. If not forget it. He had a chance to go hard to the net on a 2 vs 1 with Simmonds but just floated away.

Next year hopefully he will turn it around

Just wonder if the GM thought that they "played well" last night.

They had a good start last night for the first 10 mins. But after that were sloppy as hell and it cost them because the Rangers were a determined team.

Bill (or anyone for that matter), I've said this before, this team isn't very good outside their top players. They need to get better 'role players' on this team. To me, their lack of consistent skill makes them look sloppy and disengaged, sometimes it makes them look flat out outworked. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that opinion.

The Carey SH goal is prime example of it.

Provy has a good entry and gets the puck to Patrick. Patrick makes a cross ice pass over to Weal. The pass was okay, certainly good enough for Weal to accept it. However, Weal doesn't receive the pass on the first go, reads the bounce incorrectly. He then falls over.

To compound that error, Manning moves too far to the left. Although, I understand why he does it, it opens up the center lane. I don't think he sees Carey pushing up the center lane (if he did, that makes it even worse), but by the time he realizes where Carey is, he's way too far left to recover.

If Weal can receive the pass on the first go, or doesn't fall over (and I also understand sometimes it's bad luck), they are still in the offensive zone. If Manning holds the center of the ice, it's likely a 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 (Provy stopped skating after the pass was made).

Plays like this happen all the time to this team, but they don't always end up in the back of the net. That play right there is a prime example of this team just not being skilled enough to compete on a night in/night out basis.

Would like to see a 4th line of Laughon, Leier, Goulbourne...speed and some grit and it would also be nice to see Neuvirth get a start. He played well last time out, why not give him a shot..
- 3flyerkids

Agree with you on Neuvirth, Elliott could use a break. When it comes to the forward lines and D pairs Thursday, I'd like to see:

G-Coots-Konecny
Lindblom-Filppula-Jake
Weal-Patrick-Simmonds
Raffl-Laughton-Goulbourne
*at times you can spot Raffl on both the 2nd and 3rd lines

Provorov-Ghost
Hagg-AMac
Sanheim-Gudas
*Sanheim should also be playing on pp2

Dude just had a week off so last night's "performance" can't be blamed on fatigue. I do agree it's time to give Neuvirth a start.

Nothing to do with fatigue, just want him out of the net for a couple games. He just hasn't been as sharp his last few starts.

maybe not physical fatigue

I don't know...he had a run of strong games. It wouldn't surprise me if he slumped a little bit, but hopefully Neuvirth can pick him up. This should be the strength of the glorified 1A/1B.

The team is certainly being held back by the dead weight on the team. It shows even more when the top players on the team have off nights. They are a complete mess. Even with noted cuplrit of all mistakes and poor decisions is scratched on defense, they still make tons of mistakes. It happens. Play through it and get better as a team with your best players.

I wouldn't buy a mental fatigue excuse either. That's what the week off was for.

And yes, it's time for Neuvirth to calm things down in the crease.

Maybe, but last night had nothing to do with dead weight. Top to bottom they pretty much sucked. Except Neuvirth.

And on further review, I don't think "dead weight" is holding back the team. That's too easy a narrative to run with.

What is holding them back then? The good players not being good enough? The coach? (lol) They have several players scoring points at a league leading pace, yet sit out of the playoffs. Thoroughly confused on how that is called a narrative.

I was a little nervous that with the 4 game winning streak we may have forgotten that everything is still terrible. Now with this loss, we are reminded....

EVERYTHING IS STILL TERRIBLY TERRIBLE.

Brian Elliot is on pace to start 65 games this season.

I'm pretty sure he's not that guy you want starting 65 games in a season at this stage of his career.

A lot.
Veterans making untimely and repeated errors
Veterans taking dumb penalties
Rookies making rookie mistakes
Suboptimal roster
Injuries in Allentown preventing call-ups
Untimely sub-par goaltending

And a quick look at the standings will show us all that having "league leading scorers" means bupkis right about now.

And I apologize if "narrative" upset you. My point is I think it's too easy to simply say that "dead weight" is the problem. Sure, there are some players on the roster who maybe we'd rather not be there, but there are a host of other issues, most of which, imho, are more damaging than a few weak players on the roster.

they should have fixed the lottery better. 13 to 2 just isn't cutting it.
