I think they have learned though. Eriksson was clearly a disaster but Del Zotto and Vanek can definitely be turned into draft picks. Not sure about Gagner. In a way they are using cap space to buy picks
- CanuckDon

Gagner, while a complete defensive liability, is slowly on pace for 40 points this year. I also read that is par for the course for his aav. Him, vanek and boeser have also taken the power play from 30th place to 8th place. His value might be higher than most give him credit

Lets hope!! Vanek has been a clear win for Benning if he trades him for a top three pick, same could be said for Del Zotto, Gagner doesn't really bother me for the money he's making, he's terrible 90% of the time but he's merely a stop-gap.

I'm not saying he "should" be icing a winning product, I'm saying as a management group they should stop spending so much money trying. Purposely take a step back, hold onto some cap space, it's a valuable tool to have in your pocket.

If ownership hasn't learnt that by now they're hopeless!!!

Further to my last post
Petterson horvat. Boeser
Dank. hank kane
Eriksson sutter. PK-Specialist
Goldy Granlund PP-Specialist
Dowd

Pretty blah, but if the twins take 4 each we can throw that saving at Kane on a $6x7.

Obviously trade Vanek, plug in next year's Vanek onto line 3 or 4 and put the next best player at next year's camp on the other one.

Defence is much more difficult...... depends on where we draft next year ...

He's top 10 for me. I myself used to ridicule him, but when I took the time to fairly compare him to his rival GM's and only look at the long-term picture, he comes out looking pretty strong.

Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat is a damn nice top 3 forward group. Then you add in:

Gaudette - leading NCAA scorer and strong 2 way player
Lind - top 10 CHL scorer
Gadjovich - team Canada WJHC
Dahlen - dominating the Swedish AHL
Virtanen - can be a Kreider type.

Demko's stats are eerily similar to Schneider's, going back to college.

Juolevi is putting up points in Finland's top league as a 19 year old.

Just need another solid draft in 2018 and things are looking up.

yes...and then if tree comes back....
maybe gunarsson would be ready too

A lot depends on the readiness of some kids, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Another good draft is needed though, gotta keep that push from below always coming.

Agreed, don’t mind Gagner either. He is just a plug fill-in that may yield a pick next year. And to Codes point, he has helped the PP along with Vanek and obviously Boeser

I was never a fan of Gudbranson, that's one trade that irks me, however, with a good return he can recover from that. They'll have lost two years of development though on the kid they could've drafted HIGH in the second round, and McCann of course.

That's fair, again, Benning isn't the greatest GM in the world, I think we all can agree on that much at least. I just think venting on him when so much is either out of his control or possibly even been forced upon him is wrong.

I vent on FA a lot because he is the problem, his ego won't allow him to let the team fail in order to get better, it's failing despite all attempts to the contrary and it's probably why Benning will get the boot and Holland (or someone else) will take over and have the same issues. I really hope he does manage to buy the BC Lions and take that over because then maybe just maybe he'll be willing to focus on that team and leave the Canucks to be managed by someone who's ego isn't directly linked to the team's success and therefore might be able to take the long view without regard to gate/concession/seasons ticket revenue.

If tree doesn't come back I'd take gudbranson for 4.5 on a short term deal, protect the young drafted defender.

On to goalies.

We can beat a dead horse thanks to this guy. Another analytic guy who cant figure out the difference between wins and loses.

Sum it up. Month of Oct Canucks went 6-4-1 and the Sedins only scored 3 goals.

Since then they have improved their scoring and the team has got much worse. The Sedin's are what Gagner was to Columbus last season.

That is why I want them to load up on picks in the 1st round especially and get some quality defensemen in the system at this draft. This needs to be addressed immediately or this team wont be in the playoffs until after BO and Boeser have retired.

When the Sedins TOI goes up yes they will produce more...but also become much more of a defensive liability hence the crappier record when they play more.

It has shifted. The team is much better healthy and when the Sedins are down to 12-18 min per game.

The fear is that with Gaudette Pettersson OJ Dahlen and a few others a threat to make this club next year is that the Sedins will still be here.

Is it really worth it to keep them here for 3rd line minutes for the small amount of 'mentorship' they will provide?

Id want a young defense coming back. They dont have much they could offer. They do have loads of nice forwards.

Some combinations of the players below with picks.

Vesalanian - LW, Roslovic - c, Samberg - LD, Stanley - LD, Luke Green - RD, Harkins - C

Id hope for Roslovic, Samberg and Green maybe?

I dont see them as a trade partner though. They have buff, myers and trouba on the right.

They might want a MDZ for depth.
