Not people in here.

Im saying thats what it will take to land one of the players people want to add.

UFAs all want to hit home runs as its probably their last big contract so players will want stability.

- mauryballstein

Radulov and alzner are the only 2 ufa's to get 5 year contracts last year.

Bonino, smith, shattenkirk only 3 that got 4 year deals.

Yeah and thats how you end up with JV at 6OA. Needed a power forward.

Actually even back then we needed defense

You dont draft for a certain type of forward. You cant just not address our defense it is the worst in the league.

If no boqvist or Dahlin trade back to 6 or 7 for for Dobson or Bouchard, use the extra assets to move back in to the 1st again and draft another defense.

Yes, then you factor Edler is a year older and will be even worse so believe it or not the defense is more of a disaster than it is today.

Steps have to be taken to fix the defense and fast. We cant just add one draft pick a year to turn this thing around.

I saw one comment that made sense to me but was on i think the athletic. It was trade Gud, tanev, sven, sutter, vanek, etc but then the poster said to use all the picks we acquire to move up in the draft a couple times in to the 1st. Then with are pick come away with Dahlin or Boqvist if not trade back.

But at the end of the day go in to the draft with a plan to come away with 3 top defensemen to add to OJ on the back end.

So thats what I am hoping for.

This is my knock on Benning and management . When they came in four years ago they had Edler and Tanev as the top guys on D and still are. They added Gudbrandson who everyone is running out of town and Stecher who is playing top minutes . THat is the big move on D as of yet.

On forwards they added Eriksson Sutter and last year Gagner to insulate the young players. Well guess what four years later and people don't trust his decision and want the twins back because the team has no one else so they say. That is brutal.

Brock Gaudette and and EP seem like good quality picks but after that there is no one proven yet.

Eriksson was brought in to play with the twins and score goals , huge huge fail.
No one trusts Gagner and he is here for two more years. I like Gagner.
People rip Sutter daily on here so how do you take this deal? I like Sutter.

3 of 4 bottom 10 finishes and a bunch of bad signings. How does one endorse this management and oh yeah we are waiting for a rebuild to begin.

Not wrong. You can find a lot of players that will sign a 1 year contract. I listed the 17 players that did from last summer. You choose to ignore it.

Even worse was all the screaming last season from the tankers about how the rebuild wont actually start until the Sedins are gone.

Simply having the Sedins play 4th line minutes isnt insulating anyone.

- manvanfan

Precisely. It's odd how 'bringing the Sedins back on one year deals' because they will do so makes no sense. If the last three years have shown us anything is that there really is no more mentorship value there...time to move on and Horvat/Boeser run this club. There are options for 3-4 liners that will give us the points lost by the Sedins being gone and will help us out WAY more defensively...it's odd that some just don't get this.

For me this might be the biggest disappointment. Really thought the whole structure of the D would have changed by now. Sure we have MDZ-Poliout-Guddy but to me that is not a 'step in the right direction' change on D. By now we should have revamped it all with Tanev-Edler gone.

UFA's are hit/miss so I won't hang too much on JB there. Goaltending we have Demko coming so will be good in a few seasons. But the D to me is his biggest gaffe.

The thing about Demko is if he comes here and is getting 45 shots a night against him and a team that doesn't play well on D like forwards that don't know where our D Zone is he may get bombarded.

Neither does Eriksson I would sit him in the press box and tell him call us when you are ready to step up. Give the spot to someone who gives a damn

Even buying him out doesn't save money it only saves 500 K a year . Although next yeak he can be sent to Utica and you save 900 K

This of course is the fear. Just hoping by the time Demko is our no 1 we have the D structure in place to compliment him. Sure he will steal games like Schneider did for us but he needs the help too.

Eriksson is awful but he is solid defensively. Just let him do his thing for the next two years and if you need extra cap space then buy him out.

His contract is pretty much buyout proof. It is bonus heavy and there is little salary to be paid. All we'd be doing is doubling the amount of years remaining. All be it a smaller cap hit. But not worth it. He does however have a limited NTC the last 2 years. Then perhaps he can be moved to a cap floor team. But perhaps he becomes a better player, when better players are around him.

He is buy out proof . https://www.capfriendly.c..._calculator/loui-eriksson

It is a horrible deal. It wastes a top 9 spot for someone that actually gives a crap.

You would save an additional 400K sending him down and letting his contract expire .

Not disagreeing with you here, just pointing out that Benning was trying to move down last year.
His guy, Petterson, wasn't going too get picked at 5 so he tried to flip spots for an extra pick.

It all boiled down to Makar. IF he slipped to 5 VGK were going to pay a second to move up and take him as they knew we were looking at him. COL took Makar and they knew our 2nd choice was Petersson with theirs being Glass so there become no point to trade up.

He can be moved any time as long as he agrees to it and you can find a sucker. The only difference between a full NTC and a NMC is he can be waive with the former. Even with a full NTC he's not getting traded unless he wants to go.

1.05 is what you save now by sending a player to the minors. Thats more then an ELC
