Seeing Sutter on the "2nd line" just makes me upset. Especially when he's flanked by Gagner.

Vanek needs to be traded for max return any time between now and the TDL, as for re-signing him, let that play out over the summer and perhaps the playoffs.

It's not like someone is going after him because he's a difference maker in the playoffs. He's a very streaky player, teams that are acquiring him know that very well I'd assume.

- LeftCoaster

I wouldn't even give him a phone call if he sucks again in the playoffs this year. What GM is going to trade for him next year if he disappoints again this year?

It's easier to flip players at the TDL who are more versatile and can contribute in other areas. Checking, PK type of role.

People keep talking about wanting a faster, more feisty team, you need some vets who actually play that way to establish that identity.

Hope everyone is doing well tonight, wish the club would just hurry up and sign Benning and Sedins. 3-4 for Jim and 1 each for the Sedins. Trade Vanek, try to trade Edler and Stecher or Hutton. Get extra picks where they can or decent prospects.

It's wishful thinking to hit the same fishing hole twice and expect it to consistently produce a big fish, take the 2nd or 3rd rounder and consider yourself lucky.

I recommended UFA's who fit more into the play style that Green wants, so even if they don't score goals, they'll contribute and set the pace for the vets. More aggression and speed. Plus those kind of players always draw more interest from teams at the TDL since they're versatile so they may hold at least a little bit of value even if they struggle to produce points in Vancouver.

Again, I highly doubt you see Vanek here if he finally has a good post-TDL performance as a rental player, he'll get more interest as a UFA. And if he sucks post-TDL then no GM will fall for it a 4th time in 18/19.

- Nucker101

I'm not debating from the position that it's very likely. It's from the position that it makes sense to me to repeat if it works. You are right that he will have more interest if he does well post trade. You are also right about bringing in speed for Green's style but I believe this is going to steadily happen from within to be honest. Keep in mind, bringing back one of three players in the "slower foot speed" category doesn't make the team slower. That will happen simply by replacing the Sedins from within.

It's not like I'm talking about building a plan around this or anything. If we trade Vanek and Guddy, and then let another 3 UFA's walk... this signing doesn't have the negative impact you speak of in regards to prospects. You really think we'll go with 5 or 6 kids in place of all those UFA's?

Booner is drunk on optimism.
The only way we see Vanek is if we resign him this year, big mistake if we do.

Wut?

Drunk on optimism because I think Vanek may bring a decent pick?

Drama.

We're more or less on the same page here lol.

I think Vanek has a way lower chance of being here next year the Sedins anyway so this discussion will probably be irrelevant.

Had a couple nice drifts last time I was home, no Steelies yet but some beautiful big Brown Trout and nice Rainbows. All on the fly rod.

He's been that way since the team has been in shambles. He was a pessimist when things were going good.

He's a contrarian.

- Nucker101

So things are in shambles now are they Nucker? But not yesterday? But the day before? I'm losing track.

So when I turned on Gillis after he gutted the team's future, the team was doing good?

I really think we don't want to share our history of positions on here do we Nucker?

My prediction is if Vanek is signed this summer, you'll freak out and become a Vegas fan.

Two Sedins are twice as much slow as Vanek. I can do that math even. Good luck trading the Sedins this and next season.

Nah, outside of the LE contract, things are okay. Sutter contact sucks too.

I meant back when the team was a contender and you were unhappy with the roster and seemed to have little faith that that core would ever make a scf, let alone being 1 win away from winning it all. A lot of us were unhappy with the drafting and developing by Gillis/AV lol. And very few were defending moves like the Derek Roy trade so go ahead and revisit those moves.

You still think my trolling the past was legit so I don't think you can even go back into the past and accurately depict my positions.

Either you're responding to the wrong post or you're a confused man.

I said sign a UFA or 2 who's faster and has some grit that can play in the top 9. Ideally one of them being a C.

Awesome. I really wish I could live somewhere with open water with great trout and steelhead fishing in the winter. Ice fishing just does not do it for me.

When's the last time a player had been traded twice in a row at the TDL by the same team?

Maybe Booner just wants his boy Benning to make history.

Strange and funny . He is saying don't bring back Vanek because he is slow and can't be traded but half the crowd here stand by bringing back the two twins

Except Steelhead. Go for a run in your jet and come back later and you'll get that same aggressive buck again. Especially if you do it with a fly first, then gear later.

No.

I've said like 10309282 times this year that I'd prefer to move on from all 3.

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy in wanting a slug back. Why not move on from all 3 and establish a new play style? A roster with Eriksson, Vanek, Gagner, Sutter as the vets up front doesn't really scream fast and hard to play against to me. That's one-third of your forward group.

He missed a large chunk of games while Horvat and/or Tanev were out so I don't really care.

He's a 3rd line winger who can take faceoffs. Guy is a black hole for his wingers. 4.5M for a 3rd line W who can take faceoffs and play on the PK isn't the end of the world, but it's not good either.

LE contract is the one that really hurts.

True...because you can't retain Steelhead, they'll keep hitting anything you stick in front of them as long as you don't kill them. Chinook Salmon, not so much
