Atkinson is signed.

Is Backlund a UFA? He’s really underrated. A legit 2LC

I dont see a single player on that list that meets the Sedins criteria.

Cheaper then they'll resign for (speculation I'd say under 4 million per)
More points (2x50 point players)
Short term deal (1 year deals)
Willing to play third line minutes
Center and a left winger

Find them please because i can't.

Do we really need two? Why not just sign one player and fill from within?

You are not looking very hard either and you need not look far... Vanek who fits all that is right under your nose. He's filling a spot nicely on a 1 year deal... a UFA in the summer. A single player like you said... under 4m. He also is very willing to be traded. If he continues his strategy of being a rental for playoff contenders, and he's doing well here now, he surely would see another opportunity next season. I'm sure Van would be on his short list.

Flag away 😆😉

I get that the Sedin's said they would sign year by year. What does that do for team building? They wont here in the future. How do they mentor when they have taken a spot from those. You cant get anything for them at the TDL. What if EP and others arent ready the year after? Going to sign the Sedins for another year. Could have signed someone else on a 2 year term. Then if not needed trade away for an asset. The sedins certainly dont fit TG high tempo game.

Exactly. Time to move onto some speed. It's impressive how they can still slow the opposition down to their tempo but it's effectiveness has long faded. Time to move onto fast pace offensive hockey. Canucks added enough vets during the last couple of years. Nobody was happy with it... so we have our mentors and experience to mix with the kids already.

If people want speed then why is there talk of re-signing Vanek?

Trade him and let him walk too. Could be another Vrbata situation where he’s a hero in his first year and then a zero in year 2.

We owe him. Either resign him, retire his number with an auto entry to the ring of honor or give him a front office job.

It's going to be announced at the end of the season that Trevor Linden will step up to replace Jim Benning as the General Manager.

It would be cheaper for Aquilini to do both jobs himself.

Yeah, he's the only guy on that list worth signing IMO. But why the hell would he sign here?

I say trade him to highest bidder and move on. He’s a very good player in the offensive zone, but useless in transition and defensively.

It’s better to cut ties with veteran players a year too soon rather than a year too late

So.. low risk... and at least you see it working now... opposed to taking a shot blind on a player.

As far as speed... you have a good point there. It's a wash when comparing Danny I guess.

The GM should be talking to Green about what kind of players he wants brought in.

I’m fine with trading him as long as he finds his way into the Ring of Honor at some point. He deserves it!

Backlund is one of the very few I’d be cool with signing for a few years. He’s a ROR type of player without the drama. Much better than Henrik and Sutter

Flames will probably re-sign him though, he’s too important to that team.

Is it low risk? He’ll be taking away playing time from a younger player and that cap space and roster spot could be used on a more reliable player, ideally a younger one with more speed. UFA or from within. And if he struggles next year no one will want him at the TDL.

We’ve seen this sort of thing before with guys like Vrbata and Shawn Matthias

For sure, If Green’s Utica teams are any indication. This roster isn’t fast or hard-nosed enough for his liking.

He’s also probably desperately hoping that Demko is NHL-ready sooner rather than later lol.

Ok, but I'm arguing this point against signing two Sedins vs one Vanek. It was only 2 days ago that I presented signing a single UFA in his 20's to a multi year deal instead of resigning both Sedins on a shorter 2 or the unlikely single year.

If Vanek snags us a decent pick, then I see it as low risk. There are 6 players on the roster that are set to become UFA's in the summer. I really don't see this difficulty a single forward on a 1 year will bring.
