31 Thoughts says Phaneuf is available.

Just for poops and giggles, what deal would work for you?

They can only retain 3.5 mill right?

Phaneuf for Polak, 100% salary retained.

Different eras, though.

Today, .39 PGG is the new .70 PPG.

Good point. UG is never wrong after all. He’ll tell you that himself

Boys, I really don't want to be the guy that said "i told you so", but I (frank)ing told you so, long before you wanted to heat it. The Leafs aren't doing anything this year. They won't trade for someone. And this is something we have to embrace. Polak is a necessity. So is Dermott. So is all the other guys that you think you can trade for.

It's a necessary step. Learn to embrace it.

I agree with everything you said - except the Polak thingy.

Flush him down the toilet. Play the kids.

He's been as bad as Polak this year.

Honestly tonight Polak has outplayed him easily

See the corner camera when Gardiner called for the puck about 100x while Carrick tried to decide what to do? THEN HE FIRES IT RIGHT AT A STL PLAYER... brutal night.

I'd still keep him for playoffs as a depth d

But I'd be pretty disappointed if he was in the lineup if the D was fully healthy

Polak is necessary for now. He, unfortunately is. Mike and Lou have no interest in winning this year (which is the right call).

The Leafs have to wait for a few more years. Arguing about Polak, Dermott, Leivo or Kapanen is just fun and games in the grand scheme of things.

We have to be prepared for management doing something that may look like they don't want to win now (on hockeybuzz).

I couldn't be more behind these guys and on the same page as them.

So again, just to reiterate, the Leafs are not going to trade for a top 4 D. When they win the Cup, there will be a few dman on ELC.

This isn't 'LL falling asleep, or being past it. This is 'LL being cleverer or even the cleverest out of all of you (minus me).

I honestly can't remember how it works re: retaining cap hit vs. actual salary.

I hate when refs can't see that blatant gamesmanship. Yea his stick is in there but the defender is also clamping down holding it... this is something that happens in every game yet refs seem to never seem to see the obvious. Annoying but ah well.

He's a rightie, so I guess there's that. I don't know, these guys... if they actually got to play a full season or close to it, would they be more relaxed?

Feel for the guys that aren't waiver eligible. Kind of hate the NHL for that.

Dermot is probably making Polak look good tonight. I'm joking, but not joking.
I think Dermot saved Gardiner's ass multiple times when he played with him recently. Probably helping Polak tonight.
Except for that bad giveaway where he tried to chip the puck out and gave it right to the opposing team...

I have noticed a lot of bad plays and giveaways by Carrick tonight though. Or him being beaten along the boards in our zone, etc. Not looking great. I don't think I've ever really been a big fan of Carrick. Doesn't really seem to do anything all that well. At least a guy like Gardiner you can say, "well he's a great skater so maybe he can improve in other areas." Carrick needs to improve everything.

Yeah, but phaneuf's cap hit is $7 milly, but his remaining three years are $6.5, $6.5, $5.5.

Not sure how that works.

Watching Boston, knowing what's ahead with TB: I'm leaning towards us selling all these UFAs, bringing up some more kids to fill out the roster, and seeing how it goes.

I just don't think we have to do anything right now, this season. Some of the media are going on like once the kids are signed, we'll be (frank)ed with the cap and won't be able to round out our roster, so we have to make a run now while we have cap space.

What did that get us? Marleau?

We can probably get some kind of a combination of 1st/2nd/good prospects for JVR at the deadline; Bozak, Komarov, Polak, whatever we can get.

Load up on picks and move up a few slots or package it up for an actually top 4 D instead of some overpriced has-been/never-been options like Green or Gudbranson.

All I'm gonna say (and I feel embarrassed for the shout). I called Babcock before anyone did. It was very obvious. Had to be a bit of a spazz to think it wasn't going to happen. I've also tried to explain why the Leafs are not going to make a significant trade this year (again just trust me?) please)

I've laid out the Leafs master plan a few times, but if you want a recap,I will not charge (lucky for you guys(.

I wish i could do a podcast, blog or something, but the offer only lasts for 48 hours
