Ok, here goes the extremely glass half full hopeful theory,
Win the lottery, draft Dahlin, or pick 2nd, trade down one spot and take whoever we trade with doesnt take.... The czech or the russian, and get another first for next year.
Trade kane for a late first and a prospect.
Trade sam and said prospect or bailey for a solid young defenseman.
Trade nylander and maybe plus for a first.
Use thise two firsts and maybe something else to move up into the top 5-8 and get another scorer.
Trade lehner for a 2nd (wishful thinking) or a 3rd.
Draft all defensemen with the 2nds and 3rds we have.
Give everyone another year in the minors, draft high-ish again next year along with the xtra first from the trade down maybe and come out gunz a blazin after the lockout like we did in 05-06.
Team will look totally different and a lot younger and be ready to win.
I can be patient till post lockout if it means being really fast, good and young.
Mic-drop.... JBotts for man of the year.

Its all a giant spitball for the sake of conversation.
I just dont see why or how trying to acquire good nhl players right now is possible or even going to help by the time we are actually good given the current state of the team right now.

Now this makes more sense.

I think we can realistically expect to pick around 3/4

Kane gets us a pick and prospect

Reinhart could be moved on draft day with picks to move up

ROR could be traded in the offseason

Lehner stays for another year, Ullmark backs him up

We trade Bailey, Fasching and Baptiste at some point before next season.

Next season, depending on opening day roster, we could be a sleeper to make the playoffs as a wild card team.

Fair enough, and definitely more realistic. Hence the extremely hopeful half full disclaimer i gave.
I will still hold fast on running and hiding from lehner always in all ways.
I agree with ror, dont think he needs to be here 2 years from now though id still rather him than okposo at that point even though i left him out.
Im not done with nylander yet but i hated that pick from day one and wouldnt lose any sleep if he gets dealt for a good price.

I just don't understand why it took 1 and a half seasons to play Okposo with Eichel.

I would like him to also be dealt but it seems less likely a team is willing to given his illness last summer. who knows, really.

I just think the proposals that have been thrown around on here the past few days have been bonkers.

Yep, for some reason bylsma thought him and ror had some magic chemistry and for some other reason it held fast through this year. He does look better with jack, but so does everyone else for that matter.
Im just expecting that contract to be burdensome really soon.
Everyone wants to get something without giving something, i dont have a problem throwing in guys like fasching and bailey if it means being realistic.
If someone wants to give us something of real value for sam im all for it, also nylander before he turns into sam and loses any value he has.

We could be a sleeper by trading away Kane, ROR & Reinhart?

It looks like in your proposals the only we’d get that helps NEXT year could be the return for O’Reilly

And I’m assuming you’ve got Mittelstadt as the 2C then, which is a lot to ask for a rookie

I don’t see it
We trade all those guys away & we are likely picking top5 again

In fairness, they did get a little time together last year, and it didn't look very good. From my perspective, Jack's gotten a lot easier to play with this year. Both coaches shuffle lines too much for my taste.

Every single coach in the NHL shuffles their lines too much. Even Spezza-Alfie-Heatley, Benn-Seguin, Perry-Getzlaf get/got shuffled from time to time.

The counter argument would be to just keep your initial lines together forever and let it ride out win lose or draw. In some cases a line shuffle can sometimes pay off.
I think lines should be given a fair shake to build chemistry, like 15-20 or more games, but if the coach thinks there could be better options after that then go ahead and make a switch. the constant line juggling evey <15 games like we have seen over the last couple years doesnt really seem to be the answer and never lets the chemistry happen.

If it's worth anything, I'm only 13 points behind Reinhart also.

I could probably get 13 points and be a minus 15.

Doubtful, but maybe.

edit: I know I couldn't, but just trying to make light of a terrible season.

A bit late but RIP, Dolores O'Riordan. Was never a huge fan of The Cranberries, but I always gave them props for being unique.

Loved their cover of Go Your Own Way.

I think Reinhart sucks, especially in the system which supposedly is based on speed up and down.
Not his game, but at the same time he has been playing better most recently...but not good enough to fit on this team in this system.
Apparently JBotts has come to the same conclusion and specifically made Reinhart available for trade (or so I read a retweet on here).

If true, let’s go JBotts, YOU are NOT on a mandatory break..get it friggin done, now...GO!!
