Regardless, it was an asset they acquired and flipped for Andersen. Owning the 31st pick has nothing to do with the kessel deal amigo.
As an aside, Kapanen still has potential to be a top 6 forward. Hes 21 yo, and in his last 67 ahl games he has 30 goals 34 assists.

But you're saying it as if without the Kessel deal, they didn't have the "value" to acquire Andersen which is false. They had the 31st pick. If the Kessel deal never happens, they still get Andersen and can still get something else for Kessel. Trading Kessel was not required to acquire Andersen.
You're trying to equate Andersen's value to the Leafs today to what they got for Kessel but it doesn't work. Andersen, at the time, was an injury prone back-up that Anaheim had to move because they had a younger, cheaper, better option and the best they could do was a late 1st round pick. Andersen wasn't a lock to be what he is, he was a risk and a project. It's not like the Leafs traded Kessel for 5th overall and then traded 5th overall for Tuukka Rask.
The "value" of that pick is still not what Kessel was worth. They didn't get back an Alex Nylander or Matthew Tkachuk or any other top prospect that could one day replace his production.
It's nice that Kapanen has potential but the Leafs still didn't get value for Kessel. That's the guy who came in at a cost of Seguin and Hamilton and now we have Kapanen to show for it all while Kessel is winning Cups? They got (frank)ed twice.
