I think the Gardiner package makes a ton of sense for the Yotes.

Plus shifts the salary enough too, and lets face it we are not dropping Gards with his salary down to 3rd pairing and keeping him while paying OEL too. I just don't see that at all.

Honestly not a fan of having one Karlsson... never gets off the damn ice, takes too long every shift, and screws up a coach's matchups by it every game. Sure sometimes the offence is great but overall not enough to outweigh the bad.

Why would Arizona move OEL? His value has never been lower and he has 1 year left on his deal to make himself worth something far more valuable. They also have a floor they have to reach every year and could easily just give him a contract. Only way the Coyotes are going to move OEL is if it's a massive over payment.

All the more reason to trade pending UFAs and give the Leafs more tools to move up and grab him. Leafs love London Knights and they should because few CHL teams produce better talent.

Moving him with 1 year left is a lot more valuable than moving him out of desperation because they cant sign him to the $ he wants.

Not to mention, their team isnt going anywhere with him in their lineup. A 1st round pick + a top 4 Dman on an ok contract + a young top 6 forward or top prospect provides a lot more value than a not-quite-superstar having a bad year (again for the nth year?) while being surrounded by mediocre AHL players in an NHL league.

Same idea with Kessel in Toronto. Good player, poope team. Only his contract was too big and too long. Cant trade the whole poopty team but can trade your best player for some returns.

I dont know if it happens, simpy because of $ going forward. Toronto wouldnt deal the assets required unless OEL was coming back on a 8 year deal or something long like it.
