ESPN is right there too...its too bad that sports networks have taken up this kind of bullpoop.

I know a lot of people don't like Kane. But he is 20x the player Myers is and way more tough.

He was just part of it it was Myers(21 minutes), Armia(11 goals), and Jack "oh my God he's (frank)ing awesome" Roslovic. for Kane and Bogosian.
- Wetbandit1

I wish we could keep Kane...when he's on he is just better than anyone else involved in that trade.

Kessel, Malkin, Sid and Letang. You could throw Murray in there as well.
- sbroads24

Letang definitely isn’t in that category anymore
Idk if he ever was based on your definition?

Put up great numbers for a couple years
But he didn’t control or dominate games

Easily imo
But yeah, looks like we are gonna move him

His scoring will be missed
Hopefully there’s some kids ready to step in & put up consistent numbers

It is, and it's entirely possible for all the reasons I've pointed out. My point is there's next to no context for any of these stats. And some shaky logic for others.

We'll never know unless we're inside the room. So round and round we go. No one being right, no one being wrong.

- Wetbandit1

Right except for risto it's not just this one stat. It's all of them. The bad possession numbers, the bad PK numbers, the bad zone entry numbers, the expected goals against numbers.

There literally isn't a single defensive metric that he excels at anymore. Before he at least had numbers indicating he was limiting high danger chances against.

unless we hit on whatever first rounder they get back. then not so much. He's better right now, we're not a right now team.

ror for trouba?

ROR is the player to keep.

Reinhart, Girgensons, 2nd and Borgen for Trouba and Roslovic

I think depth is their biggest issue. But I agree that Toews and Seabrook aren’t nearly the same players. Kane still is.

I think the Sabres have a star power + depth issue

- sbroads24

To bring it back to the Sabres...
I don’t disagree with your assessment

But I also think you’re way to hard on the good (not great) players that we do have

It’s not their fault we are bad

It’s that we don’t have enough around them

The more I think about it the more I have to agree with those who say that GMTM made the ROR & Kane trades 1 or 2 years too soon

Right NOW, it’s tough to disagree bc we’ve been crappy

But if the moves made on defense had worked out (specifically Bogo & Kulikov)...
Then I think we’d have made the playoffs
And we’d all feel differently

The defense has been so brutal though,
that we’ve wasted (to quote Sbroads) these past few seasons with Kane & ROR

I think the timing would’ve been ok if he fixed the defense too
But GMTM utterly failed at that

The simple truth is there were several moves that could have -
But didn’t - Make the team much better. It’s also true despite all the finger pointing at Murray, that he made many more moves that improved this team than JBotts.

We vilify Darcy STIL for siting on his hands. Well ...

Do possession and zone entries go on the scoreboard?

he wasn't going to be able to fix the D any other way than the draft, that's why the timing is off.

Hmm, it's almost like something changed in the offseason. I can't quite put my finger on what it could be...

Yes, but is anyone on the team good at any of those things? That's the point.

He's playing Keith and Karlsson minutes from 21. He's not those guys, but just because he's not those guys means he sucks and we should trade him. If you decreased his minutes his numbers that he's in control of would get better.

There are probably 10-12 true 1D in the league. They're pretty few and (frank)ing far between.

How are these generated? Isn't there a pool of data that are available for them evaluate the same metrics for the whole season?

I'm particularly curious about this here because that means those stats capture almost exclusively what has been arguably the Sabres worst stretch of the season. Also, sample size
