Fair points gord

I just think Ryan has the skill set to be a strong 2nd line winger. His issues are confidence and now hand issues > not that he is too old or slow (which some people who don't watch him play believe)

- AlfieisKing

I don't think anyone denies he has the skillset to be a top 6 forward. The issue is consistency and injuries (well documented). With his finger issues, his shooting ability has severely dropped. His history and contract just don't warrant a team taking a chance on him unless you take on another bad contract. 4 more years left.

If you call this falling apart, what was Toronto going through for over half a century.

Embarrassing themselves

That doesn't change anything for you however.

Hypothetical here:

To Edm: Mike Hoffman, Cody Ceci
To NYI: Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Logan Brown, 2020 2nd round pick

- AlfieisKing[EDM]
To OTT: John Tavares, Oscar Klebom

*Dorion allowed to talk to Johnny T resigns Tavraes 8 [email protected]
*Resign Karlsson 8 [email protected]

Duchene - Tavares - Ryan
Dzingel - Brassard - Stone
Smith - Pageau - White

Klefbom - Karlsson
Chabot - Phanuef

Edm wins this deal.
Ott wins this deal.
NYI only win the deal if Tavares isn't going to resign. Doubt he goes anywhere though, still fun to talk about

You give up Hoffman, Ceci and Logan Brown for Tavares and Klefblom?

Uh, wow.

Hoffman is one of the best snipers in the game [if he has a true #1 center]. Duchene with Hoffman is finally starting to click but it's very unpredictable with what's going on the team.

If Hoffman was shipped out to the Oilers AND the Islanders are unable to resign him (this last point being the critical piece) then the Islanders get a solid top 2 center with a high ceiling, and one that's projected to be. If that 2020 pick is a 1st it wouldn't be far off in that scenario

Also....you, me, and the other people on this site can pretend like Ceci doesn't have trade value but given what Larsson and Vatanen brought in terms of value, he still has a ton of value. I wouldn't say as much as Larsson but Ceci also isn't being used properly in Ottawa. He needs a solid stay at home with mobility like Karlsson had with Methot

But the team gets to negotiate with Tavares prior to the trade in this scenario, right?

I think another team would pony up a lot more in this case.
