Goalies

Andersen: B+

Has been up and down at times but when he's been on, he's been very good. Just seems to occasionally make a mistake he shouldn't be making.

McElhinney: D

Doesn't play enough games because he can't be relied on and that's usually the mark of a below average back-up goalie. That's going to catch up to Andersen eventually.

Pickard: Incomplete

One NHL game and didn't do enough to replace McElhinney but it would be really nice if he did.

Defensemen

Rielly: B+

Best offensive defensemen but also makes serious, game altering mistakes. But the good usually outweighs the bad and he's still very young so ups and downs are expected.

Hainsey: B

Plays a bit more than Hunwick but basically the same guy. Not spectacular, just steady. Plenty of giveaways and goals against but nothing absurd.

Zaitsev: B

Steady, unspectacular and sorely missed upon his injury.

Gardiner: B-

Generates plenty of offensive points and chances, just takes too many risks at the wrong time. Not as good as he was last year but still on the ice for more goals than he is against.

Borgman: C+

Bottom pairing defender who occasionally has a noticeably bad or good game. Not much of a difference maker.

Carrick: C+

Same as Borgman with a bit more offensive potential.

Marincin: Incomplete

He hasn't improved enough but has the size and youth that gives him a small window of hope to redeem himself one day. Still better than Polak albeit only slightly. Lost out on the spot because he's left handed.

Dermott: Incomplete

Two games can make you look amazing or terrible. He looked closer to amazing but two games, a career does not make. However, those two games were good enough to justify getting rid of Polak and giving this kid an honest chance.

Polak: F

Useless. Get rid of him.

Jack Johnson requested a trade. Id take the gamble on him and trade for him for sure. Can be a good rental for the playoffs and for our top 4.

Babcock F-

If he put all the skill players on one line like I do on XBOX the Leafs would be better than Vegas. Some coach, Leafs aren't even better than an expansion team.

Leafs need to find a way to get severson from the Devils. They keep scratching him. If they don't want him well take him

Andersen is in Vezina conversation since November. Guy has been on his head for most of the games he’s played. Outside of Hainsey, Rielly, Dermott and Zaitsev I hate our defensemen. Dermott still has a bit to prove obviously but early play shows quite a bit of promise.

Lou really needs to make a trade for a defenseman or two.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I change the settings so players don't get tired, then I just roll all the skill players out over and over again. Stoopid Babcock.

I'd give him an A+. Him and Freddy are the only A+'s in my opinion.

2 bad plays by Rielly and a bad October by Freddy can't take away from it, I don't think. Their play the rest of the season more than makes up for it.

pretty much what I would have said

I wouldnt give Polak an F, but close to that maybe a D+. He also has a positive 5v5 goal differential. Does have respectable PK results (even though everyone else has the same results), he just hurts the team overall

But not good enough on D to be an A. As a "prospect / young guy" he gets an A but judging him as a regular NHLer, still B.

Any player that needs to disappear, gets an F. He's also taking away a spot from younger guys which is a guaranteed F from me.

I'm so sick of Jake Gardiner. Does he have trade value? I feel like he might. Package him with Kapanen, Bracco, picks, whatever, in exchange for a better defenseman. I can't stand watching him anymore

Connor Carrick - F
Roman Polak - F

A few weeks ago, I really thought the Leafs were gonna put Polak on waivers. The game has passed him by. Dermott is clearly ready, so I'm not sure why Polak is still here. Seems very Brian Burke-esque to keep him around

I really hope Dermott and Liljegren pan out. Lot of pressure for those kids to contribute in a meaningful way

- AxlRose91

He's played 2 games -- there's nothing "clear" about his game as yet. Having said that, I don't see why they won't give him plenty more opportunity this season to prove himself as at least worthy of the 3rd pairing.
