Supporting a player carrying the puck? Does this mean getting to open areas to score goals? Hags doesn't do that either. Look what it comes down to is hags is way overpaid and needs to go.

I'm only identifying the type of player he is in respects to the data in the charts - or trying to. I'm not saying he's doing it well!

To be honest I commented here when he first got traded that I didn't like the trade as 4m for him is too much. 2 cups later I was proven wrong.

It's 1am here, I'm off to bed. Probably wake up around 5:15 thinking about the game but I hope I just wake up at 9 (Sunday morning here), & see a WIN for the Pens!

Haven't been many afternooners this season so far... But last year, if my memory serves me correct, they were kinda atrocious in afternoon games.

So I've been thinking regarding Sprong...

I wonder if he wouldn't be well served switching to his off wing. He's drawn a lot of comparisons to Kessel, but over his sample size I'm not super sure why. He's fast and has a great release which are Kessel like attributes, but their games are totally different. Sprong plays like a pure scorer where as Phil does not and is more of a facilitator. When I think of pure scorers such as Kucherov, Tarasenko, and the archetype of Oveckin, they almost always play on their off wing because it puts their stick in a better position to one time relative to the goal. The reason why wings usually don't play on their off wing despite this huge advantage is because it puts your stick in a wonky position to make plays to teammates at center ice, which is inhibiting, but if you're a pure scorer, that's not really your primary concern.

I think of James Neal, another pure scorer, who was switched over to his off wing by Bylsma and saw a huge uptick in production.

Given our terrible depth at LW now that G is playing 3C, this move is worth a shot and might be mutually beneficial to both player and team.

Sprong's game really reminds me of Ovie's T this point. The way he skates, the shot, the way he feeds off of a physical game in the o zone. I mean, obviously he's not Ovechkin, but very similar styles.

I can't begin to speculate if that switch would work or not. As you said, some shooters have made it with great success while for other guys making plays in their own zone and the neutral zone is a detriment.

But being overloaded on the RW and weak on the LW is just a temporary situation. Eventually Guentzel will be back at LW. Hornqvist may not be back. And that RW spot next to Sid has been a revolving door. So if Sprong is more comfortable on the right, might as well leave him there.

In other news, bye week turned out well.

Canes are only one point ahead of us with the same amount of games played and the BJ's recent skid has left us six points back with two games in hand. Very catchable.

If we don't make a move for another C, G won't be back at LW. At least I hope the improved 4th line is enough for Sullivan to move on from Carter Rowney as an every day roster player. You simply can't play three 13th forwards together and have a functioning line.

Playing G at 3C doesn't optimize Guentzel's ability, but we are a much better team with him anchoring that 3rd line right now than we are with him as LW.

I prefer Rowney over Reaves. At least Sully trusts Rowney to PK. A 4th line of Rowney-Sheahan-Kuhn would be okay with me.

Ok fine. I’m mostly talking about having all three together. They need to remove either Rowney or Reaves permanently from that line and I’m fine with either. I think Kuhnhackl definitely brings the most out of all them.

I kinda want to trade a pick for Anton Slepyshev from Edmonton. He looked good in the playoffs last year could be another Schultz for us. I also still want a Boedker Hagelin trade swap to see if we can rejuvinate both Boedker and Slepyshev.

If I'm a betting man, I'd put the Pens at going aggressively after Bozak this off-season at greater than 70%.

Reports are JR looooooves him.

I kinda hope not. Everyone in Toronto says he's starting to fade. Sounds like a bad contract waiting to happen.
