"The Fritz Pollard Alliance is calling on the NFL to investigate whether the Oakland Raiders violated the "Rooney Rule" when they hired Jon Gruden as coach.

Fritz Pollard Alliance counsel Cyrus Mehri and N. Jeremi Duru issued a statement Wednesday expressing concern that Raiders owner Mark Davis came to an agreement with Gruden before the team interviewed any minority candidates."

more wasted tax dollars

- homiedclown

They wanted Gruden, Gruden wanted them. I see no problem with that. I understand interviewing someone can get their name out there, but whether they interviewed them as a serious candidate or not is irrelevant if everyone knew they were going for Gruden and Gruden was going for them.

I have no idea where you're getting tax dollars from though. That's a private group.

Ok...
but that doesn’t answer the question really

Fixing the defense & zone entries will help scoring, I agree

But doing that PLUS keeping Kane would help even more than not having Kane anymore

I’m just saying it doesn’t have to be one or the other

- jdfitz77

It does if you want to avoid bad value. Dont pay guys like kane max term and 7 mil a year. He's not a top 5 winger

I wonder if this is the year Kovolchuk comes back. Throw him a 1 year prove it deal to play with Eichel while the young guys grow
- MCGUIZZY

He’ll have offers from contenders
Or at least from playoff teams
Hard to imagine Kovalchuk coming here

If I'm a hockey player

I'm only taking 2-3 year deals

there's a lockout every 5 years

I play where I'm wanted and get rewarded short-term

hese 7/8 year deals only work if you're Crosby, Stamkos, etc... and even then, I understand the "financial security" or whatever aspect of it but come on.

they're already making minimum 500k to play in the NHL and the vet minimum is like 2 million now?

That’s fair
But I’m not convinced he’s “bad value”

I’m just saying that we’d score more if our LWs next season were:

Mittelstadt, Kane & Nylander
instead of
Mittelstadt, Pouliot & Nylander

Why is HS free but not college?
U can’t really get a decent job today with only a HS education

Like I said...
if not free, then some form of debt forgiveness

Kids are living with their parents till they’re in there late20s now

It’s not bc they’re lazy millennials
It’s bc they’re in debt & cant afford to have their own place

- jdfitz77

My daughter just graduated nursing school, her student loans payment are more than my mortgage.... how is she ever going to be able to afford a house of her own?

Of course now NYS residents can go to a suny School for free.

Doesn't have to be benoit, there are cheap options in UFA that could bring you 90% of kane's goal scoring for like 1/5 of the cost

In general i agree but security is everything in sports like hockey. Long term deal you may give up a few dollars but a little more peace of mind

There’s no reason they couldn’t just interview someone though

Even if it’s a token interview...
like u said,
It get your name out there

Also,
I’ve heard many coaches say that getting interviewed helps them for the next interview

Even if it’s a sham...
just interview someone
And certainly don’t say crap like “we had the deal in place”

Sure,
everyone probably realized what was up
But keep your mouth shut about it

What what about guys like Moulson, etc?
Obviously the 5 year deal helped him keep getting paid

Who tho?? Seriously i want to know

I mean I could see names like James Neal and Cam Atkinson but at what cost and what term? Neither of them are 26 years old

- MCGUIZZY

Vegas just got a guy like Marchessault, who's worlds better than Kane, for free.

There are value wingers every year had for almost nothing, that produce like Kane does.

Kane had a great first 15 games. Since has been an average 2nd liner

Edit - Worlds better is harsh. He's better though

That’s my point
The situation your daughter is in is absolute BULLSH!T

And that’s the same for most college students today

What 25goal scorers are signing for under 2mil per season?

I don’t think that’s realistic
Even if those guys exist (which I don’t think they do)...
are they signing with Buffalo?
Doubtful

That’s why I used Pouliot
Bc he’s the level of player we can sign at a good cost

She wont, and then she will get blamed for the housing market being how it is.
And then also get blamed for restaurants dying out because they cant afford to go out to eat.
And then blamed for not having children because it costs like $10,000 up front to have one.

Jason Pominville has 11 goals, has played a ton less than Kane in terms of minutes. Pouliot has 8 goals. Both those players we aren't hitched to long term.

You can find goal scoring wingers. It's not hard.
